Exactly both sides and one side doing it in the name of Jesus Chhrist...what an insult to the man.

As 1 of the posters who hi-jacked your thread I'm sorry. I found on-line the bishop stopped throwing in the ball from 1965 onwards but it didn't give a reason why. I mentioned it today at work some of the lads were saying teams were complaining that the bishops were too slow getting off the field and getting in the way at the start of the match.

Replying To Whammo86:  "I think the debate on homosexual having equal rights should be over now. The debate on ethnic supremacy and the establishment of ethno states/apartheid regimes you'd have thought should be over but apparently not.

I'd dare say there's a cohort of loons that would argue in favour of slavery still. I think there are fringe arguments that should just be shut down but are still rearing their head.

I can see the transgender debate start to subside shortly, hopefully as more people become familiar with the difference between sex and gender and that there's increased awareness of the fact that there's many cases where biological sex is not actually a binary outcome.

The moral zeitgeist moves, thankfully. Hopefully some of the opinions aired here become increasingly extreme."
An honest question, what is the difference between sex and gender? Forgive my ignorance.

Unfortunately the whole transgender issue has become totally politicised. In some cases there is a link between body dysmorphia and gender dysphoria and it is not a big step mentally to go from " I hate my body" to "I hate my sex". it is not insignificant that anorexia is estimated to be 4 times higher in the transgender community than in the general population.
Childhood and adolescence are times of flux. When people reach the age of 18 let them begin the journey then to make a gender switch if they want but before that age it should be out of bounds. But there are some activists, maybe the majority, who see it as a political struggle and a matter of individual rights no matter what the age. Kids who are questioning their gender obviously are vulnerable people. They need to be listened to but also protected from those with a wider political agenda. A well known doctor who works in this area spoke recently about the "coaching" that some teenagers are been given when attending for assessment on their gender issues. Some are being given information on how to answer the questions to ensure that they will be prioritised for transgender surgery. This is immoral and another form of child abuse. The ones coaching them wont be around in 15 or 20 years time if some of these kids in maturity come to realise they made an awful mistake.

I've come across a fascinating new book for schoolchildren 7-11.
It's called "Brilliant! 25 Catholic Scientists,Mathematicians and Supersmart People" by David and Jaclyn Warren.
Illustrations and biographies of Pasteur,Mendel,Copernicus,Braille ,Hildegard etc.
It could help to know that faith and science are entirely compatible.
Norma Foley should get it into every primary school in Ireland.

Science by all means in the schools but religious indoctrination NO,that is something that should be left privately to people to take up or not.

Gender is the social construction.

So things like men's and women's prisons/schools.

Men's and women's sports competitions.

The men and women's categories on the census etc.

It differs with context and country but for the most part it's a binary question that's part of the organisation of society.

Sex is a person's biology. It's more of a spectrum. Most people are born quite unambiguously fitting into the traditional notion of what a man or a woman is but not everybody is. There's people born with both penises and ovaries for instance that make a clear rigorous biological definition of what a man or a woman is impossible. "Men" usually have an X and Y chromosome but I believe sometimes people with 2 XX chromosomes have exhibited penises also. It's a tough concept and I'm not an expert so I'd be very open to correction on the above.

Oh right, so there's 2 genders and people with both organs are hermaphrodite.
And there are 2 sexes, so maybe I'm not that confused.
Thanks for answering.

Norma Foley would be better matched getting proper covid testing and PPE into the primary schools so our kids can go back in a safer environment.

There aren't 2 sexes. Sex isn't a binary, it's just every individual's sexual biological makeup. It's a spectrum.

Biological make up? One can conceive and the other can't, that's still two?

No, people have multiple sexual characteristics and some people have some but not others. How would you categorise a person with a vagina but no ovaries. They can't conceive but they hardly fit in as men.

This is the thing there's no rigorous definition of what exactly a man or a woman is. Most of us it's clear cut but for plenty of people it is not.

So basically for the vast majority its as clear as day, two sexes and two genders. Thats good enough for me, cheers.

Not really though is it.

Most people don't need wheelchairs but we as a society rightly look to make the world accessible for wheelchair users.

You were the one asking for the explanation, you're deliberately now trying to be a smart ar** and not want to learn.

There definitely aren't just 2 sexes. It's objective fact. Whether or not you want to understand the reasoning why is down to you. Be happy in your ignorance, I'm glad there's some mature people in the world who look to see it as it actually is rather than what they want to tell themselves it is.

A thread on a GAA forum called 'Tradition'. Might be some very interesting facts about old games or how certain aspects of the GAA came to be.
Wait, no, 9 pages of nonsense with nothing to do with the GAA?
Lads, there are plenty other forums out there to debate the issues you've been going over. Sometimes threads can go off on a tangent, but this one is ridiculous.

You are so right, condescending posts one more so that the next, bordering on the extreme, "gaels"?
