It was brought about by vision and real leadership from the top table. The players love the team . It seems they have no problem ,and feel they are not beaten into submission to partake in something they do not fully understand. Thus they seem to feel free from fear of doing something wrong. They know their culture is to review ,identify shortcomings ,and continually seek to improve.
Jim Gavin or Dessie Farrell now could go for the dinner when the game is on ....they dont need to shout anymore. The work is done ,and continues to be done by the players on the field... The players buy in freely it seems to the discipline and physical and mental conditioning required for top level coaching and management.
They see it as personal development and educational to be on the playing panel. Listen to any of their players .its the team and continuous improvement . Never hear excuses used for a deficiency nowadays. No blaming the referee. No its about culture and the willingness to self analize with a view to improvement.. They are smarter because they know now the old ways are largely redundant . In fact it has little to do with money alone, but rather vision and leadership from years back. We need to get on that bus also! A serious review would be a good beginning!"
IF A Mc....and those in power in the Organisation in the county really believed that this was the way forward, it would cost absolutely sweet feck all to organise the members of the Adult Senior Teams , Football & Hurling, & incl u20s to arrange to visit elderly in their area , socially distancing of course, just to check up on them & see do they need anything. ….if nothing else even a 5 minute chat,,,,,similar could be done to visiting young kids when allowed , to run small mini camps on skills etc....there si so much that could be done with a bit of goodwill & intent......and most importantly...don't do it for show...do it, arrange it, because you believe you want to give back...because you belive you are one of the luckly ones to be involved at a County level, because you are a proud Royal......and please please, do not get a photo about it in the Chronicle ,

I think that culture was there to an extent during the Boylan years - those teams had huge character.

Boylan had the players back and was a great influence on players like Fay and Geraghty and others like O'Rourke and the teams had a super work ethic. Those teams never complained and the culture was still there after the retirements of many of the 87/88 team and then carried over to the 96/99 team.

The problem is its so hard to keep that going - only this Dublin juggernaut has been able to do it over a sustained period.

not hard to keep it going if you believe in it....if you are artificially trying to create it so as to try & "tap-in" to it, to improve your results & stock....well you are doomed to failure ….you cant just log into this when you want to ….we either believe in this or forget about it

Player centred approach is not optional.. . Its the only show in town ! In to days world coaching and management is about physical and mental approach to DEVELOPMENT . Modern day sport is about developing the person. Players have to BUY IN to what is a CULTURE . Rewards are not only about medals .but also about personal development and education through sport. Boylans players have told us about how this approach helps with everyday life. If a player says the effort is not worth it .then you have to ask serious questions. Difficult to see where a dictatorial style will be appropriate as a motivational tool on its own anymore. Of course it may be required in rare circumstances as a last option ! Some people just wont fit into a team ! Players fully deserve all the rewards they get especially in terms of personal development. Managemt team fully deserve all the help to install and maintain this culture. Dublin have followed on from people like Sean Boylan and shown that when players see and feel real benefits they will buy in and stop at nothing to be part of it all.. Invest in the PERSON ! Our top table have a responsibility to ensure that all the bits are in place to meet the demands of the modern game!

Things need to change from the top down andy could be the right man to lead us and very impressed with flynns appointment and his plan he has and the background staff he has . But within the county board is where the changes need to happen for our county team and clubs team to improve

all you have do is look the dublin set up there a very well set up with people who are put into jobs that they would excell in and have experience off . Then look at our county board and there not too many who have a proven track record . they seem to be on it as there was no one else who wanted and look fair play to them but they should never been put in the situation as alot of them dont know how they should be doing there job. Then you have a few who were not wanted by there clubs committee so then they went into the county set up .

Delighted with this. When I mentioned it last year it was pure wishful thinking. Fantastic to have him on board. Could be answer to free taker issues as well... two birds!

Even better, did not know he was also a free-taker. Hope he gets a chance to shine this year.

Wexford FC train in Leixlip I think and are pretty much amateur (you'd get a modest appearance fee). Presumably he's cleared it with Meath (Saturday nights are when matches are on and Meath won't be playing for a long time yet). Either that or the journalists who broke the story had it all wrong.

Thats a strange one alright,
Conor O Brien has an article in Fridays Indo about JC joining Meath panel
" Former Ireland underage international goalkeeper Jimmy Corcoran has joined the Meath senior football squad ahead of the start of the 2021 season."
https://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/gaelic-football/former-ireland-youth-goalkeeper-switches-to-gaa-and-joins-meath-set-up-40107778.html

and I just read in this weeks Chronicle that he has joined up Wexford FC and will line out with them in friendly tomorrow, was quoted as saying
"Hopefully I can play as many games as possible and gain as much experience as I can, Wexford is a great club and it's only getting better so hopefully we can push on this year and do well in the league."
https://www.meathchronicle.ie/2021/02/20/jimmy-corcoran-set-for-first-division-season-with-wexford/
Crossed wires somewhere.

My guess is that he is probably guaranteed some action with Wexford and no guarantee of action, during the current lockdown with Meath. At the moment the lockdown is as long as a piece of string.
I notice that the Chronicle actually quotes the player so the Independent article can be treated as speculation. The bottom line though would be included in the contract signed with Wexford.
So the Meath goalkeeping saga goes on and on and on. We will be going to Mars on holiday before it's resolved.

Something up with that story alright. I know Wexford FC are a mostly amateur setup rooted near the bottom of the First Division, but I don't see how anyone could juggle playing for both a LOI team and an inter county football team. If anything Wexford's amateur status makes it worse as they'll be training in the evenings and weekends just like Meath.

I know of a small number of LOI players who'd tog out for their GAA clubs, but nothing at inter county level.

Most LOI games are friday nights so he wouldn't be able to give any commitment to a Meath training, Unless the Wexford and Meath managment made some agreement that he could do a session with each team in a week.

I'm just trying to imagine; say all goes well with the vaccines, case numbers etc. and in the summer Meath are playing a Leinster SF on a Saturday evening. Would McEntee really let his goalkeeper miss training the week before, and then play a full soccer match 24 hours before the game?

Doubt he would , But anyway I think the young lad has made a decision for this year at least and the very best of luck to him . Think we need now on the 4 or 5 young keepers available to commit full time and with a bit of luck we will get a top class intercounty keeper out of them .
