Sligo Covid-19 Breakout

Desperate news

Seems like a large break out and given the amateur nature of our games most of these players wouldn't have been able to shield away from their families

Hope this doesn't go onto have a tragic impact

Will they be able to field a team?

Hardly fair to make them play with a depleted team is it, so a walk over for Galway?

Oddly quiet on here regarding this ..

Be a different story if it was a higher profile team

Can only imagine the reaction if it was Dublin and it could easily be yet.

I agree it would be a different story if it was a more high profile team but thats the media for you. Fermanagh were in a pretty similar position a few weeks ago and even ourselves to a certain extent when we were down our manager and 14 players due to covid against Cavan in the league. While this is the first outbreak that has hit a team for Championship it may be the case should they still have players available to turn up the game should go ahead.

This just proves how selfish the gaa are no games should be going ahead in level 5 these are not professional athletes that live in a bubble these are people who after games and training go home to their family and have to go to work I wonder how many cases will be linked to the gaa but I'm sure the gaa mafia will keep that under tight raps

7 possitive cases confirmed and more waiting for test results. Will be lots of close contacts too. Does this mean restrictions put in place by teams are not working if such a high percentage of the team end up getting it?

They'd an outbreak in their hurling squad too and gave a walkover in the Christy Ring.

Horan said yesterday that they wouldn't be rearranging games in the provincial championship so it will be interesting. I have a feeling they would rearrange a game if one of the big teams had a covid outbreak.

Hope for a speedy recovery for the Sligo players who have test positive.

There is space for this game to be pushed back. Connacht final would have to go back as well but then it would be the same weekend as the other provinces.

Plenty of pressure though to not be the one to say he wasn't going to play

Look at the vote the GPA had

25% felt it shouldn't go ahead, close to the same said it should only go ahead if proper health and safety was put in place to prevent outbreaks

You can see why with this outbreak.. and whatever guidlines have obviously been not good enough in Sligo

I've no doubt a large % of players would rather not be playing at the moment but were under pressure to still turn up

We're meant to be doing all we can at present to slow down the spread of covid-19 and this example is simply not good enough in this climate.

I wish the Sligo panel all the best and hope there's no far reaching consequences of this on their families.

This lark is ridiculous

That's the most concerning thing

It's obviously not and I'm sure the Sligo CB did all they could and followed the guidelines

There was always a very large slice of wishful thinking with the Championship going ahead under Level 5 restrictions and a highly infectious virus doesn't give a ******** about such things

What did they expect from amateur players exactly?

But what choice did those who they have spread it on to have?? It's remarkably selfish of the GAA to go ahead with the championship. The players and the communities in each county should not be put in this position.

So I assume all the people who are on here saying the championship is a disgrace are boycotting it and not watching on TV and adding to the viewer figures

I'd prefer to read a book over needlessly jeopardizing the health of our amateur players and their families because the GAA don't want to have the fallout of dealing with broadcasting rights

Sure. You'll be watching if Dublin get to the final. NPHET said running the Championship was fine and the case numbers are slowly coming down so get off your high horse.

Indeed and for the record the GAA for ready to postpone the championship once the country went into level 5 but since then medical experts gave their strong advice to government that the championship was good to go in level 5.

Its unfortunate for Sligo, there is time to push this fixture and Connacht final back but I doubt Mr Prenty will do it for little old Sligo.

I agree, big mistake going ahead with this championship, there is a lot better things to be watching and doing than looking at facile games on TV.

You're better off given how Wexford played at the weekend.

Can yourself and Stmunnsriver care to elaborate what on TV does interest you?

For me i have enjoyed the NFL and Championship viewing thus far and looking forward to watching a few games this weekend. GAA isn't the same without supporters but it's better than no GAA or be left with re-runs or non stop covid fear mongering on the TV.
