Replying To KillingFields: "Claiming no-one able to defend because of bad conditioning is straight out lies." Two poor teams so

Replying To Pope_Benedict: "Rugby needs to do something about the amount of match time that is wasted setting and resetting and resetting scrums. When a scrum is awarded at international level these days, you can go make yourself a cup of tea, and come back to find they're probably still settling the same scrum." That's true in some games but better for referees waiting for scrums to be set correctly than risk a player being paralysed after a scrum collapses.

Replying To KillingFields: "Just showing ignorance of rugby if calling it pushing and shoving" Tony Ward showing plenty of ignorance with his typical egg chasers comment about how great rugby is and how terrible GAA games are, 1 good rugby game and he gets all excited.

Replying To Kew: "Two poor teams so" Not really but you would see it that way. As it's clear you can't grasp what a good game of rugby is or even what rugby is about

You don't see half the comments dismissing gaa or soccer in derogatory terms on rugby forums as you do the other way Why are some in soccer and gaa so insecure about rugby...

Replying To Kew: "That's because Kerry boss ye down south" Don't watch Gaelic football so don't care if Kerry beat us every year. Doesn't affect me. A hurling result however is a different story

Replying To DuhallowRed: "He didn't say GAA he said Gaelic football." Has to be said Rugby would generally be my second favourite sport to watch after hurling.

I've just read the piece, and to be honest, I don't see much wrong with it. It's behind the Irish Independent paywall, but if you have a subscription, it's here: https://www.independent.ie/sport/united-rugby-championship/tony-ward-rugby-again-shows-why-its-way-ahead-of-gaelic-football-and-soccer-when-it-comes-to-entertainment/a1529587306.html link
Hope it's okay to quote the relevant paragraph here for anybody who doesn't have a subscription: From a personal perspective and with apologies to no one I am immersed in our three main footballing codes; rugby, Gaelic football and soccer. Sadly the latter two in terms of quality and entertainment (when compared to times past) are an unmitigated mess. And we'll leave it at that. Rugby ain't perfect, far from it, but tell me that what we are witnessing in the oval ball code isn't a much better level of entertainment on a game-by-game basis.
I don't see a huge issue with that. It's basically "rugby person thinks rugby is more entertaining than gaelic football or soccer".
It's not much different to a GAA pundit writing a paragraph or two along the lines of "why I prefer gaelic football to rugby or soccer".

Replying To Viking66: "Has to be said Rugby would generally be my second favourite sport to watch after hurling." Shush! Some people here will put you in the same bracket as Tony Ward. :)
But again being honest, I'm the same. Hurling is by far my preferred choice. Rugby generally second, football generally third, and soccer a distant fourth.

The mention of the word Rugby is enough to trigger a lot of people - the context is not important.

Ward was a good soccer player too. Life's too short to be getting bothered by anyone criticising your preferred sport.

Yes, sometimes I am very anti rugby. It is not nice stuff by me, and believe me, I don't feel great doing it. Just standing up for the 100% native Irish games of hurling and football. The Munster/Connacht match was very entertaining, and URC have a good product no doubts there.
