The Typical Or Non Typical GAA Diet

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Does anyone know of any GAA players being Vegan, Vegetarian, Carnivore only, or any other "different" eaters from the typical population? I imagine being so fit they wouldn't be big into junk food.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if he wasn't the only one. Watch the documentary "The Game Changers" about some top athletes on a Whole Food Plant Only Diet. Great documentary. The Keto Diet is big now too so maybe some of them are on that.

Both Roy Keane and Gary Neville put it best on diet with off the ball last year. Roy Keane spoke about having to change his ways after his cruciate ligament injury going from pints after to games before his injury to a new extreme later in his career from fad diets to detoxs therapy sessions in Europe. You need red meat too because playing midfield in the premier league just salads won't do everything in moderation.

But I think Gary Neville put it best when he said a pint of beer will cost you the league, I seen myself alot of good young hurlers at my club lose their edge from binge drinking in college and weekends.

I wouldn't be the biggest advocate of veganism either, but if you're gonna slag it off, you could at least make a factual argument!

Are you a beef farmer? While red meat is a good source of protein, vitamins and minerals, it is not an essential part of a diet. As for 'just salads won't do'. Who lives on just salads?

Plant based nutrition has been growing traction in elite sports for several years, didn't realise that about Paul Mannion. It certainly hadn't done him any harm anyway.

Some of the biggest names in American Football swear by the plant based diet saying the recover faster and feel better by cutting out meat. That's probably the most physically demanding and injurious sport on the planet so there must be something to it.

Sports people operating at the highest level don't eat just salads if vegetarians. Where did you get that idea ?
A pint of beer will cost you the league ? That's a bit daft too might I say.

Lad lighten up a small bit those were Roy Keane and Gary Neville words not mine with what they achieved in the game of soccer I'm sure they might know a thing or 2 about diet and nutrition. Fair enough my comment didn't explain well enough what they were saying, watch the video I thought myself it gave good insights of what those Man utd players were doing during a time which they were very successful.

It's odd how some people feel threatened by other people's diets

Look chief I hear you and I know you're quoting lads who did achieve but that was 10-15 years ago and sports science and nutrition have moved on a lot in the meantime.
Players and athletes today that are vegetarian have well demonstrated that you do not need to eat meat to operate at the highest level.
A pint in moderation is not going to make the slightest bit of difference to your season, so I wouldn't agree with Neville if that's his opinion titles or no titles. Keane , I personally pay little attention to so I cannot comment on anything attributed to him.
