Quite simply the GAA financial model absolutely depends on the All Ireland county championships going ahead each year. If it doesn't go ahead, then the financial repercussions will be felt at all levels of the GAA, and not just at HQ.

Nobody can say that for sure...others countries are slowly relaxing measures. You cant keep a country locked down for a year with close to a million on social welfare...the economy would collapse....

Not in tipp or fair few other counties They'll start in April usually with 1 championship game but some years will see2 early on if not more. I'm sure the GAA will be taking their lead from the advice and direction of the government. The GAA should be planning for a severe financial hit in 2020. Or, to be more blunt about it, should have had a rainy day fund in existence all along. Not for something as drastic as a pandemic, no-one could have foreseen the current emergency. But certainly an emergency savings fund of some description. The government will have an awful hard decision to make in the near future. At what point do the social welfare payments become unsustainable for example? How long do we keep the country in lockdown as it is? If people are only going to get €200 a week how long will it be before there is a mutiny? There is talk of home testing kits being made available and those who can prove they've had the virus and recovered will be allowed to get back to some sort of normality in terms of work and getting out and about. Neither club or county can exist without the other. Counties need clubs for players and clubs need counties for the money and exposure. You're right, country cant be kept on lockdown for a year but sport ,and particularly amateur sport will be the last area where restrictions are relaxed. Hence why it is highly unlikely there will be any GAA this year.

Lives come first always but if the economy collapses then the healthcare system is in further trouble...that's my point. It's a delicate balancing act.
