What and who is this 'anti GAA mob'? Why are they anti GAA? And are there also anti IRFU and anti FAI mobs?

Replying To Tirchonaill1:  "If any of you watched Prime Time tonight I think it's obvious from the experts view that these lockdowns are never going to work, and a safe effective vaccine may be years away if it ever even comes,
all lockdowns do is protect the hospitals from being over run, that's the theory,
we need to build more capacity into the hospitals and get on with living, the amount of money we are borrowing and throwing into the black hole of the Hse is ridiculous. we are destroying the lives of young people and it's all for nothing, the virus will go through the population eventually anyway,
all this panicking about daily numbers, positive tests etc is a fear frenzy that is achieving nothing but scaring the bejasus out of the elderly and ruining the quality of life they had,
We have been hearing about these record high numbers in Donegal now for weeks,
you'd think from the media that it was armageddon up here, Letterkenny hospital has never been as quite, all these positive tests have not resulted in any surge in the hospital, we'll see how the next few weeks goes.
A big rethink is needed because these lockdowns will get us nowhere, the shops were packed for the last few days. even the ones that are staying open anyway!!
if they are going to proceed with lockdowns they'd be as well to do it without notice the next time, brains are in short supply obviously."
You say we are spending too much money on the HSE, but also say we should be building up hospital capacity to deal with the virus while letting it spread uncontrolled in the community...

A 100% hospital based strategy would cost more than the entire budget of the state with all the new hospitals, beds, equipment, staff etc. we'd need. We all saw Italy and New York earlier in the year to know what happens when you let the virus spread uncontrolled and have hospitals as your only line of defence. The hospitals got swamped and there was no capacity left in the system.

What's wrong with what he/she said?

GAA members include those who are elderly or have underlying conditions which leaves them vulnerable to the virus.

GAA members have died this year because of Covid-19 and more will likely die because of it too unfortunately.

People are just losing the run of themselves. I am a frontline healthcare worker exposed to the possibility of getting the virus every day but life must go on. I am neither for nor against the GAA championship going ahead but Nphet have allowed for it to occur. This latest thing of 13 Offaly players being deemed close contacts indicates that someone somewhere has changed the rules for GAA activity, possibly as a consequence of the irresponsible behaviour and bad publicity that occurred following some club finals. There may well be a certain amount of vengefulness involved in the decision.

Perhaps the stupidest comment I've ever seen on this. Are you stuck in a fairy ring in Galway or something since February? Covid kills and has and will kill many many GAA people.

And the earth is round by the way, just in case you didn't know.

So you're a frontline healthcare worker who thinks the notion that people will die from the virus are over the top??

I take it you don't work in the ICU dept of any of our major hospitals then?

Oh, and I hope you never do!

Who are you to jump to assumptions in relation to where anyone works.

Thanks for your kind remarks. You can read as much as you like into comments I make, it's completely up to you. People die every day from many different causes and I have seen my share. I dont at all underestimate the danger of Covid 19 but if it makes you feel good or superior to think that I do that's fine.

If he works within or outside an ICU he's still in a more high risk environment than most of us. Fair play to him. We're just tapping away with our opinions in some comfort on our electronic devices and little to worry about in comparison. Thankfully NEPHET, HSE and politicians don't consult Hoganstand or other forums when it comes to making important decisions.

Well like it or not, your comments suggested that you think it's an over-reach to suggest that people mixing at this time could lead to someone getting sick and dying.

Why is there any lock-down at all if that isn't the case?

You assumed that PoolSturgeon didn't work in ICU and then cast aspersions on his/her ability to do so. That was totally out of order . You need to withdraw what you said.

I'm sure he/she has the ability to do their job. But as someone who has lost a relative to Covid, to be told we should just 'get on with it' is sickening!

I stay well clear of jumping on one side or the other when all the hoax, anti-mask, etc talk is going on, but I take exception to someone making light of a deadly virus in the way it was.

Commiserations Cavanman on your bereavement. There's a big difference between following COVID restrictions and getting on with life and flouting the restrictions and ignoring the virus. I don't think he's making light of the dangers of COVID just saying be safe and healthy and life has to carry on.

The problem with the whole discussion is that people don't seem to understand the difference between the world being idiots and the world learning to live with this virus. We have all lost loved ones before their time for whatever reason, so nobody has the moral authority on that claim.

And I'd hope so. Honestly, I'd be of the exact same opinion.

Firstly cavanman can I say that I am very sorry for your loss. I've lost loved ones and I know how difficult it is. You are well within your rights to take exception if you believe someone is understating the seriousness of this pandemic and the danger it poses to life. I agree with what you feel about this virus. I have to be honest with you and say that I would still take issue with your remarks about PoolSturgeon's ability to do his/her job. Having said that cavanman all I can say is keep safe and well in these very difficult times.

I appreciate that.

Like I said above, I don't doubt their ability to do their job, but I do take exception to the playing down of people's concerns about virus as 'over the top' or as a 'high anxiety' reaction when it's clear the damage it is doing.

You're well entitled to do so cavanman and I would be in agreement with you taking exception.
