Think it's joint with Michelle O Neill SF, and the DUP Arlene Foster. Neither seem to have much of a clue. Foster hoping Boris can fund them, she's knows they are stuck.. As realistically Johnson couldn't care less about the North. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2823 - 09/10/2020 19:08:51 2296626 Link 3 |

There're the biggest party in the Republic as well with 24.5% of the vote. Not bad results both North and South.

% of the vote doesn't make you the biggest party in the South. Its proportional representation so most seats = biggest party.

Yeah does numbers are not good, but the only number that matters is deaths, followed by ICU and those in hospital and when yo compare the last time we had 1,000+ deaths look those other numbers. So something fundemental is different this time out. It can't be just all wall to wall daily misery, vast majority all ages recover. The sad thing is those adhering to the guidelines can't do anymore and those who don't are doign a lot of damage.

More people in Ireland voted for "the shinners" as people call them, than any other party. Does that annoy you. Get used to it.

Looking at the massive numbers in Ireland today, it's not a surprise that there may be a connection between county finals/celebrations and infection numbers. Upforyourball (Meath) - Posts: 37 - 10/10/2020 23:11:43 2296746 Link 1 |
Sinn Féin and Fianna Fáil have the most seats in the Dáil, 37 each; with Fine Gael next wit 35 seats. Sinn Féin got 24.5% of the vote in the 2020 general election; Fianna Fáil 22.2% and Fine Gael 20.9%. Sinn Féin are "the biggest party in the South".

FF got 38 seats. For me its a sad reflection on our society that Sinn Fein got so many seats . I respect the vote. Our media gives them an easy ride and fails to call them put for their years of mayhem and murder. Our centre parties don't know what they are . Sinn fein exploited this. What I think Ireland needs is a proper left/right division...we don't have a proper Conservative party and really Fine Gael needs to take this ground or there ll be another alphabet soup of parties on the right to match whats on the left. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 11/10/2020 09:49:57 2296755 Link 1 |
The other thing is - with no end or cure in sight, it could easily be 12months before we have a vaccine. So do we lockdown or semi lockdown for another year .? The economy will be shot, businesses closed, huge unemployment, no foreign travel or hols, home schooling for most of it, and no sport as a distraction for people. Not good..! We just now need to learn to live with it responsibly and act accordingly in say a level 2, as this thing shows no sign of going away. Another lockdown or level 5 will not get rid of it unfortunately. People need to be able to live and enjoy life. Putting everyone's life On Hold until we have a vaccine could last longer than we all think...!! Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3969 - 11/10/2020 10:13:20 2296760 Link 1 |
Yeah let's divide everyone into 'left and right' what could possibly go wrong!

I wudnt be a Sinn Fein supporter but seeing the vote they got last time. I feel they should have been allowed to go into government. It's then we'll see what there made off. They are making lots of promises esp about the pandemic payment so for that reason hopefully they'll get a chance.. will they be as popular after serving a term I doubt it. I know this is a gaa forum so sorry for veering off track. rorysboys (Donegal) - Posts: 2563 - 11/10/2020 10:19:35 2296763 Link 1 |

I agree totally, if govt going to spend more money its got to be on ICU and expertise to be able to cope. HSE struggles all the time we are certainly paying for it now.

Sinn Féin's seat total has risen in each of the last 4 general elections, in 2007 they won 4 seats. In 2011 they won 14 seats. In 2016 they won 23 seats. In 2020 they won 37 seats. During those 13 years they have not had to make one single decision that has had an effect on the lives of the people. They should have been afforded the chance to be part of the government after the 2016 election. I am not a Sinn Féin voter but given the decisions that have to be made by the present incumbents it looks likely that Sinn Féin will be the largest party in The Dáil after the next election, Apologies for discussing politics on a GAA page but politics is very close to everything in our lives during these increasingly difficult times.

I was discussing this with a friend in the pharma industry today and the one thing he was talking about that perhaps doesn't get much recognition is the amount of companies working on treatment drugs like the ones Trump got. The only problem of course is all of it is based on being in hospital. Even with a vaccine we will see far more people in hospital as people think of it as just another treatable illness and take their chances and not get vaccinated. The major challenge will be how to manage hospital care at a time when its already under stress due to the ills that society brings on itself without the help of any virus.

The media gives SF an easy ride? Well I would disagree with that. Regarding the years of mayhem, yes there was. But there were two sides to the conflict. It is easy imho, to live in County Limerick, and pass judgement. If you are Fine Gael, why did they or Fianna Fáil not stand candidates in the North. If you cared so much. Answer is FFg did not. I am a Pro life voter, it is to me a sad reflection on this country that two anti life parties, Fine Gael/Greens and most of FF are in power now.
