I remember in Munsters peak years some rugby fans I knew slagging off the GAA cause we couldn't sell out PnG and Thomond park was full for every Euro cup game but there is a difference of 25k in capacity FFS. The Pro14 does them no favours, you rarely have 2 strong teams going at it and that is being reflected in attendances. There was 10k at the pro14 quarter final in Thomond last year. Season tickets didn't cover this one so it was an actual attendance and it was double what I have seen there for some Pro14 games in the same venue earlier in the year. Limerick hurlers we bringing in a lot less than 5k for league games for many years. Cork footballers are barely get 1 or 2k. Rugby fans are obsessed with soccer, any mention of rugby online and there is invariably a comment comparing it to soccer ie "this is not soccer". It's like clockwork! I have Spanish friends who complain that they're are more Barca and real fans in their towns than Zaragoza or Málaga and Man Utd fans from London has been a running joke for years. Lots of Irish fans especially in Limerick are multi sports fans so prioritize big games in each code and that's absolutely fine but I know quite a few rugby fans in Limerick who spent the bad days of Limerick hurling slating the sport and laughing at us dreamers for showing up despite the fact that they were in the stand in HQ in 94 & 96 and guess what we're all in green outside Colbert station in 18 Breezy (Limerick) - Posts: 1236 - 04/02/2020 16:26:32 2265137 Link

I wouldn't say one outweighs the other in the city when it comes to AI over EC and for most people at least seeing any winner come out of Limerick is a big deal. My meaning of the passionate GAA supporter is the guy who will always support his own club and bandwagon supporter is the guy who supports his club , or indeed his county when they are going well and proceeds to shout at the Ref when he does not give all the decisions to the team he is supporting.
