Just watched the Donegal v Mayo game. Mayfair (Galway) - Posts: 68 - 25/01/2020 20:59:46 2262260 Link 8 |
The referee is entitled to do so. When the ball is not in play due to delays his real time clock is stopped. Watching the Dublin/Kerry game tonight the ref was absolutely right to add on the additional minutes. Donaldtrump (Galway) - Posts: 252 - 25/01/2020 21:09:42 2262267 Link 7 |
Agree beyond a joke now. Same Dub v Kerry.

The ref had a bad game all round ,alot of soft frees esp to Donegal but infairness to the ref in injury time when Donegal got a free a Donegal lad stayed down to waste time before they eventually took the free ,so while I think he had a bad game all round game for both teams I credit him for allowing extra time for time wasting

It is not nonsense, if he is arbitrarily adding time that is wrong, nothing wrong with someone asking for transparent time keeping. The game was scrappy, stop start, that was down to him and people are entitled to ask why a game was 79/80 mins. That said a draw was a fair result.

Most idiotic post of year. How is stop starting nature of match down to ref? Ridiculous Bellewest (Westmeath) - Posts: 150 - 25/01/2020 21:47:08 2262289 Link 2 |
Would agree with this, and would also point out that teams that concede late equalizers often heavily, and needlessly, engage in time wasting tactics. So the fault for additional minutes after the allocated extra minutes often lies with the leading team, not refs

Overall, it's a trend to be welcomed. Let's not revert to the days when the ref added on a couple of minutes max, regardless of how long the earlier stoppages and time-wasting had been. essmac (Tyrone) - Posts: 1141 - 25/01/2020 21:55:39 2262297 Link 2 |
Yes, but if the clock was stopped everyone in the ground, including players, would see that it was stopped. Surely this would also cut out these time wasting tactics as they would be seen to be useless. But above all it would be transparent. It would eliminate the temptation for a ref to let the trailing team have 'one last chance' when time was genuinely up. I can't see what would be wrong with proper transparent timekeeping. It works well in the ladies game. Mayfair (Galway) - Posts: 68 - 25/01/2020 23:53:41 2262356 Link 5 |
Agree, stop clock badly needed in football. Getting to the stage where 15 minutes is going to be added on to the end of matches, ridiculous. TheImmortal (USA) - Posts: 24 - 26/01/2020 10:08:30 2262405 Link 3 |
No It was also down to the nature of the game these days, cynical fouling, diving, conning the ref for frees, the game has gone down hill in that regards big time. The keep possession mentality has meant that frees are crucial so players are trying to win one rather than score from play.

Couldn't believe I seen a Dublin player kick a ball away with seconds to go resulting in ball being moved up. The Gavin era is well and truly over. PointRoad (Louth) - Posts: 111 - 26/01/2020 11:19:27 2262429 Link 2 |
Well that's what usually happens when a manager leaves.

Clever fellow you are, you can see the point I was making, it's the first meaningful game since he left and when would you see them kicking the ball away not once but twice under him. Standards slowly drop and drop and drop.

No idea. Not too bothered about it tbh just think it's an odd comment to make considering it's the 1st game of the league.

Dublin Kerry had a "minimum" of 6 minutes additional time. The Dublin 21m free was given about 74:50, but only finally taken at 75:45. Would people rather the ref just blew up there and then rather than recoup the minute lost? CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1677 - 26/01/2020 16:34:13 2262527 Link 12 |
100% on the money.

A visible clock so everyone would know exactly how much time remains. Galway v Monaghan today had an added 5 minutes and played almost 10. Just be upfront and transparent and it will cut out the time wasting. Mayfair (Galway) - Posts: 68 - 26/01/2020 17:48:46 2262549 Link 3 |
