Just watched the Donegal v Mayo game. Please would the GAA do something about time keeping. It is now beyond a joke, it is unfair to a team in front that the ref always decides to add on time, long after it is up, to allow the trailing team a chance to score. The referee is entitled to do so. When the ball is not in play due to delays his real time clock is stopped. Watching the Dublin/Kerry game tonight the ref was absolutely right to add on the additional minutes. The ref had a bad game all round ,alot of soft frees esp to Donegal but infairness to the ref in injury time when Donegal got a free a Donegal lad stayed down to waste time before they eventually took the free ,so while I think he had a bad game all round game for both teams I credit him for allowing extra time for time wasting Galwayjoe86 (Galway) - Posts: 258 - 25/01/2020 21:14:24 2262272 Link

It is not nonsense, if he is arbitrarily adding time that is wrong, nothing wrong with someone asking for transparent time keeping. The game was scrappy, stop start, that was down to him and people are entitled to ask why a game was 79/80 mins. Would agree with this, and would also point out that teams that concede late equalizers often heavily, and needlessly, engage in time wasting tactics. Surely this would also cut out these time wasting tactics as they would be seen to be useless. But above all it would be transparent. It would eliminate the temptation for a ref to let the trailing team have 'one last chance' when time was genuinely up. I can't see what would be wrong with proper transparent timekeeping. No It was also down to the nature of the game these days, cynical fouling, diving, conning the ref for frees, the game has gone down hill in that regards big time. Dublin Kerry had a "minimum" of 6 minutes additional time. The Dublin 21m free was given about 74:50, but only finally taken at 75:45. Would people rather the ref just blew up there and then rather than recoup the minute lost? Then Dublin fouled twice from the kickout and kicked the ball away, slowing the game up even more. Galway v Monaghan today had an added 5 minutes and played almost 10. Just be upfront and transparent and it will cut out the time wasting.
