Kennelly is a goon and he's very lucky that he was a good athlete and the son of a kerry great.

I would say so, playing in the B championship wont appeal to many footballers, I personally know of a couple of guys who have rejected county call ups for this reason. Many players wont deem this worth it at all

It has a huge influence on it I think. The GAA powers are creating a two tier competition where one wasn't needed. What was needed was a complete restructure of the championship by getting rid of the provincials but they wouldn't dream of it."]100% 5bogs they took the easy option, I wonder in time will we see great players from 2nd tier teams joining teams in tier 1?

The words of T Kennelly earlier in the week never came of any comfort to Tyrone fans. As if he would care about our season one way or another. OGarmaile (Tyrone) - Posts: 248 - 10/01/2020 09:54:36 2258610 Link 2 |
Based purely on T Kennelly and Donaghy / McHale, I reckon AFL degrades the skills of Gaelic footballers if and when they return to Gaelic; whereas basketball seems to help with Gaelic-relevant skills. essmac (Tyrone) - Posts: 1141 - 10/01/2020 11:45:02 2258651 Link 0 |
Kennelly in 2009 brought something different to Kerry tho. It's easy to focus on just the Murphy hit, but his all-round physicality was well ahead of most if not all opponents he faced.

It amazes me that more dont drop out. At least with a "B" championship they'd have a goal to pursue , an objective to be achieved, and a realistic chance of winning silverware.

I think you make a great point here. I noticed at my own club that underage players who play basketball seem to improve at a faster rate. Maybe that is due to the extra fitness they gain from playing basketball but it improves their handling of the ball and ability to make decisions quicker. In general I think its good to have youngsters playing different sports. On the flipside it does seem to take players returning from AFL a long time to readjust. Tommy Walsh is a great example, taken him a few years to get back to his best. Possibly injury played a part in this for Tommy as well. Possibly a few years playing with the oval ball makes a diffrence. Green_Gold (Donegal) - Posts: 1906 - 11/01/2020 12:37:54 2258895 Link 0 |
I agree with you about the clear transferable skills of basketball and football, but on your 2nd point I would reference the return of Marty Clarke to Down in 2010 which saw a run to the All Ireland final, with him playing a major role.

Very true about Marty Clarke. I actually saw him play against Donegal the year he returned (2010 perhaps) and he was magnificant, just glided around the pitch and one of the best players I have ever seen. The conclusion here is that I was talking utter tripe lol. Tagh Kennelly another good example.

McShane will be playing for Tyrone after all in 2020. Big boost for the Red Hands.

McShane won't be going anywhere and will be with Tyrone for the championship if not sooner.

Great news and a huge boost to the county. He has been missed as a focal point of our attack. Sooner we see him on the pitch again the better. OGarmaile (Tyrone) - Posts: 248 - 06/02/2020 10:15:37 2265608 Link 0 |

Great news, delighted for Tyrone and the game in general, wished we had played you in the first three rounds of the league now, he tore us new one in the league last year. ;) TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4515 - 06/02/2020 11:20:45 2265632 Link 1 |
