Continuous Failure

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Being a county player is a huge dedication at this stage and, for whatever reason, some wish to opt out. I feel no ill against them. There are lads who have given their all for the best part of a decade and won nothing - their reward is to come on here and read all the negativity about them. They probably get worse than from people when they go out in Cavan town or somewhere.
Others are maybe 19 or 20 and have important years at college or studies etc. The GAA can't always be at the forefront.
Its very hard for young lads aged 20 and 21 to sit and watch their mates disappear away on lads weekends or socialize over Xmas when their thought is a McKenna Cup game tomorrow.
The point is there are plenty of different items for lads to opt out but Cavan are not the only county being hit with lads taking time out.
I do think its time, and its the umpteenth time of me saying it, that we concentrate on the dedicated lads who are there and will pull on the jersey tomorrow and throughout the year.

The main influence on the U21 teams was not Peter Donnelly? as much as I respected the man not many like him but the main influence was the late Joe McCarthy RIP he did so much work it was unbelievable.

Why would Bradley obviously be gone, he could switch clubs but still play with cavan. I'm not sure though. Be interesting to see the story tomorrow

What an awful title for a thread. Lads come and go of county panels that's how it is the commitment been asked is unreal.
Good luck to the lads who are in. Tomorrow is a big big challenge. Step up and forget the players that have moved on.
Mickey and Dermot have a year to prove themselves and keep us in division 2. That's as much as we can hope for. We have to wait and see after that.
Hope to see good open attack football.

He is suppose to be training with Meath.

Do you know what's truly awful though?

Cavan's record in Ulster over the past half a century.

Ah yes, I suspected we'd have a poster on here trotting out this argument.

When you raise the issue among the blind followers the inevitable response is always "but sure all counties lose players". You know full well that other counties don't hemorrhage players on the scale that Cavan do. You're just refusing to acknowledge reality.

As for the negativity, did you ever wonder where that stems from? I suppose fifty years of constant failure might have something to do with it.

It looks like my point went over your head because you just missed the main part of it and continued the negativity.
Perhaps we are hemorrhaging more players but there could be various reasons for it. The manager can't always be the problem because we've had several over the years and its a continuous issue.
That leaves you with the players and, as I've trotted out, there are various different reasons for them to move on and not commit.
What I do want to do though is get behind the lads that are willing to commit. Yes, 50 years of constant negativity but maybe its time we got behind the team. I'm a Cavan supporter but we're very quick to turn on our own team, even in the stands. If we can't even have belief as supporters, how do you expect the team to?

That was poor stuff today. Armagh had a more stonger team and most of the subs they brought on were regulars. At the same time Cavan looked very sluggish. Armagh were clinical in first half, scored 1-14 with only 1 wide I think. The Cavan defending was poor though, letting them run through with no intensity in the tackle.

Niall Murray performed ell when he came in., before black crd?, Conor Smith and Connolly showed glimpses but big improvement needed all round.

How many players are actually on the squad, Evan Doughty named as sub but injured and hasn't trained in a month

I've certainly seen a lot worse McKenna cup games than today's.
Armagh look like a team to watch out for in 2020. Lots of quality young players they have there

Armagh had 10/11 of their starting team for League/Championship playing today. We only had five or six.
We'll see how the League game goes in a few weeks.

Breffni the sad reality we had probably 11/12 of our starting league team for 2020 out today , Mc Louglin and Smith still to come back . I think what is happening Cavan happened Offaly a few years back

Cavan only had 5 or 6 starting, because there has been a lot of departures. If Cavan were to get a few Injures on top of the players who have gone, it wouldn't be a good situation.

Niall Murray I think will be the main man to lead Cavan this year, showed lots of determination when he came on, he always had the potential, probaly wasn't played in his best position until 2019

Who are the 9 or 10 players who we can bring in to our starting line up for the league, unfortunately i think what we seen yesterday is as good as we have available bar 4 or 5 to come in.

Was chatting to a fella fairly in the know about Ramor and the Bradley situation. Apparently he was not called back into the county panel this year over been included last year but stayed in France and missed too much last year.

He then put in a transfer request and will most likely line out for Meath from now on.

Lads around Virginia are fuming with him as people connected with the club paid for all the flights back from France for games. Could easily be in the thousands....

Last year we played poorly against Down in first McKenna Cup game and nobody took any notice because we won by a point against a Down team which was as experimental as ours.
This year Armagh arrived down with most of their first team and beat us but that's the big difference - our performance was just as poor in both games, this year though we had a team who were eager to win playing us.

Down and Cavan were under new management last year, so were experimental with the teams.
That wasn't good enough yesterday, the panel Cavan had yesterday is what's there for the year, plus a few others like McLauglin, James Smith to come back. They'll improve but they have too, or will be in relegation trouble
