Greatest Lost Talents In Your County

I had forgotten about this lad until I saw him listed today in one of the papers as a potential star to watch in 2020.....apparently he's becoming quite a successful actor !! Paul Mescal - he played 3 years for Kildare minors and at u21 too & was a superb back. Defo one of the best we have had at underage. Still only 23.

Add Cathal McShane to that list.

This is terrible news if true, he is a player i love to watch and last years top scorer in the championship, is it still rumors at this stage, really disappointing if this happens even if it is a great opportunity for the lad. You can see why they would want him.

Yep, joining Dub5 underage star James Madden at the Brisbane Lions, by all accounts.

Kerry will be doing well to hold onto Clifford imo

Not exactly lost, but Odhran MacNiallais has decided against county football again in 2020. He has his own reasons which must be respected but he's a rare talent and it's a shame we won't see him in county colors. Not just us in Donegal either, football fans in general will miss out. One of those players with a languid style who somehow can play the game at their own pace.

Fully agree.
He is a massive loss to Donegal.
Such a talented player.

Why is he opting out again this year.?

Any word on Oisin Gallen?

What a prodigious talent that boy is really enjoyed watching him briefly last year and was looking forward to more, he was linked to the AFL earlier in the Autumn but havent heard anything on it since, hope he sticks around, what a talent.

Gallen went to Oz for one of those trials but in so far as I'm aware that's as far as it's going. Unfortunately he's just put his shoulder out so the chat is that he'll miss most of, if not all of the League but should be in contention come Championship time.

There's talk that he might be going travelling but also he has personal reasons which have to be respected. At least we'll still get to see him lining out for Gaoth Dobhair. Some of the stuff he does at club level would make you question the laws of physics. Super player!

Sound, looking forward to seeing more of the lad - hopefully.

I guess what you're trying to say with that article jackeen is that ye have had 6 players go over since 1983?

So with yer playing population of about 40.000 eligible players every year over the last 37 years ye lost 6 and Ciarán Kilkenny only went over for a long weekend, whereas kerry with a playing population of about 4,000 eligible players have lost 5 in the same time.

Ye should be losing 7/8 players every year but the money in Dublin must be very good.

It's quite evident in the article. Make of it what you will.

You should refer to your own managers recent interview about the efforts the Kerry county board and Kerry sponsors are doing In order to try to keep Clifford O'Shea. etc. etc

Madden was one of our best ever underage players and he left the Dub5 to go to the AFL.

The money on offer there is massive and I fully expect a Lot more top level players to try it.
Kilkenny did, was doing well but got homesick.
Others will be better prepared for the change.

Well if the above says what I think it does then your trying to tell us ye have a special way (€€€€) of keeping yer top talent out of the grasp of the aussies.

We've just lost Ross McQuillan to Australia - he was a huge prospect for us - huge loss.

Just cos that's how your county board retains your talent, don't tar my beloved county with the same brush!
