Replying To Kew:  "The One New Zealand Stadium (formerly known as Te Kaha) in Christchurch has a budget of NZ$683 million, which is roughly equivalent to €387 million. The stadium is a multi-use arena with a roof and capacity of 30,000.

387m but with a roof seems great value compared to casement park"
There's political ructions in Australia over the proposed new stadium in Tasmania for their new aussie rules team.

It's a 23,000 seater multi purpose stadium with a roof, potential cost 1 billion australian dollars !!

Why dont you cop on that Dongal, Cavan and Monaghan are in Ulster. Antrim needs a new stadium, Ulster doesn't.

Casement isn't in GB.

Casement will be a facility used by people from both sides of the border, and we (the taxpayer in the 26) do fund things in the 6 from time to time. Nothing wrong with that in an all-island economy.

Citizens from the 6 regularly contribute to the exchequer in the 26, particularly GAA supporters who make plenty of journeys to Clones, Croke Pk, Ballybofey, Breffni etc, spending plenty of money.

Try to keep up lad. It was in response to "GB taxpayers" so what does that have to do with the 3 counties you listed. Though I'm probably wasting my time explaining this to someone who thinks Clones is up to modern standard.

And plenty of citizens cross the border both ways for medical matters and long may it continue .

Exactly, a lot of facilities in Ireland are shared, and that's the way it should be on an island, no matter that there are 2 jurisdictions.

We should have more cross border investment, not less, as it is beneficial to all.

That's Clones ground used regularly by our county, and is as good as any in Ulster. If you want a county ground go build it and stop begging around two countries to build it. Ulster does not need a stadium any more than Connacht, Leinster or Munster do. Croke Park is our National Stadium and no other monuments are needed. I think your county teams tell us all we need to know about Antrim GAA. You had a stadium and couldn't keep it in good repair. Now you have spent 12 years with the hand out wanting everyone except yourselves to replace it and upkeep it. One day you are British, looking for a hand out from Westminister and the next day you are Irish looking for handouts from Dublin.

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to say to that sweeping generalisation of me or anyone from Antrim. But personally, I've never asked for a handout in my life. You have decided to internalise some political bee stuck in your bonnet with your digs about being British like any hard working GAA person in the 6 counties had any choice over their current national status or what was to be done about a multimillion pound stadium. You were likely one of the Monaghan lads at Casement in 2013 that was chanting about not paying taxes to the queen. Then you have the cheek to start moralising about things beyond the control of me or anyone else in the county. I think I was right in my last message to you, wasting my time.

I am not totally up to date on the politics but I hope to God they build a spanking 40,000 plus Stadium that Antrim & Ulster can be proud of it would do wonders for GAA promotion

To be fair to the GAA, the politics of Casement have been appalling. At every juncture, roadblocks were put in the way by people who simply did not want it built. However, mistakes were made on the GAA side also & unfortunately the financial reality of it all is the only thing that matters now. As it stands, Casement will not be built if the GAA insist on the current design. I also want it built however I find it appalling that the various stakeholders could not agree on a municipal stadium which could have held well in excess of 40k and be long built now at a cost well below Casement. That's the real tragedy of all this.

That's actually one of the issues with the new Casement, it no longer can hold 40,000+ that Ulster needs and that every other Province has. I believe it will be restricted to 32-34,000 max, which is less than what Clone previously held.
It no longer meets the criteria for a Provincial stadium, but Ulster GAA would force it to be anyway, even if losing out on ticket sales.

Is there not a green field site on the outskirts of Belfast where they can build a proper stadium at a slightly cheaper rate?

And turn Casement Park into a community pitch.

Why is there such a drive to get a development done where space seems tight

Because the original Stormont money was for Casement, Ravenhill and Windsor?
