(Oldest Posts First)

Hi there, going to help take my clubs hurling under 8s . Does anyone know of any manuals or dvds I could buy for more ideas of fun games etc to play and help develop their skills

There used to be a guy in Croker called Pat Daly I think he was games development manager whom I got stuff off years ago.
Also there's plenty of great YouTube videos of Martin fogarty and Paudie Butler running coaching sessions for all ages. I'd imagine if you made contact with either man they'd be more than willing to send any information your way, their passion for coaching the small ball is infectious.
Good luck!

Hi there, and fair play to you for taking up the job. I'm involved with the U7s and U9s in my own club, and it's a great thing to do.

These DVDs & books from Croke Park are just the thing for the younger age groups:

Costs €20 for the pack, but a good investment.

A foundation coaching course would be very worthwhile too, but I've no idea if they're run around Monaghan, or how often. No harm asking your County Board the question, though.

By the way, friend of mine from our school days ended up living and working in Monaghan for a few years after college, back around the mid to late 1990s. He transferred to play with Monaghan Harps, and ended up lining out with your county team for a year or two as well.

Then he moved to Australia, and now he tells people there that he's from Wexford, that he played inter-county hurling around the time we won the All-Ireland in '96, but unfortunately wasn't on that '96 panel himself. I suppose he's not telling lies, but he's not telling the whole truth either……!

Thanks I'll have a look up on YouTube and will see if I can send them an email

Honestly don't know, but there's a phone number and email address at the bottom of that page that you could contact.

Have a look at videos here too, if you haven't done so already:

absolutely recommend P. Butler & Martin Fogarty's vids on YT. Some labeled under camogie but great little one-off tips that have helped me immensely as I was never lucky enough to get any quality coaching. Actually first learned the game from the 12yo nephew & 14yo neice while spending 4 months in Gowran. Those two little YI hurlers seemed to be more interested in my shins though. Years later I'm trying to get a youth club started & those videos mentioned have been invaluable. Both for proper techniques as well as ideas for drills & once we have a rebounder or can finance a wall/ball ally there's several good vids on getting the most from wall sessions. Walls w/out windows just don't exist here. Thank god for the big grocery store. I'm too old to be breaking windows. good luck

DJ Carey Hurling Skills on youtube is as good a coaching video as you'll watch , circa 19 minutes.
