Is Ashbourne The New Ballaghaderreen? :)

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Ballaghaderreen part of County Roscommon but part of Mayo GAA. Is Ashbourne the next area to move into a different GAA county from where it belongs and have the Dubs successfully invaded it? :-)

They can wish the Meath man playing with dub well. I have no problem with that. However the manner in which the credit union acted was disgraceful and Bryan menton was absolutely right to call them out on it.

When the gaa in mayo was founded ballaghaderren was part of mayo. In 1898 it Was transferred to Roscommon can't hardly blame them for not transferring gaa wise to Roscommon. Not really the same Ashbourne has been colonised by dubs and they aren't like anyone else going to give up their county of birth.

No.

Just because whoever does the social media for the local Credit Union goes overboard with their congratulations for the Dubs 5 in a row should not be construed as a club ready to abdicate from Meath to Dublin.

In fact the said club has a decent chance of winning the Meath Senior Championship this year.

It is now part of the greater Dublin area, they'll be changing the border officially soon :D

It's not only the credit union (who actually asked a dub sub to open it ) but the bus thing previously, it's getting irritating now and delighted that the Meath capt called them out on it.

I did not realise that you had agreed to divide you county into 2 - how would that effect the sponsorship? Would you have to get another fleet of vans to carry the kit around, or would the drivers do the extra work with a bit of overtime?

We want Ballaghaderreen playing in Roscommon. We're not worried about Ashbourne at all. Both Meath and Dublin are populous enough to compete at the top.Meath just don't seem to have their structures right.Roscommon only has a population of 65000 so we can't afford to be without Ballaghaderreen.I think Mayo's population is around 130000,twice ours.

Menton came across a little silly and petty to be fair.

The Credit Union is a community based organisation that put up a post congratulating the Dubs because they know that a lot of their members are Dubs living in the locality.

Also I'm sure that the Ashbourne Credit Union's catchment area extends into North County Dublin as well to around the Rock's homeplace in Ballymadun, Co. Dublin, so Menton's rant looks fairly ill-informed for a man from the locality.

I never said Rock was from Ballymun.

He is from Ballymadun. Which is just outside Ashbourne but in North County Dublin. About a 2 minute drive but over the border. There is a lovely country pub out there called the Foxes. Call in and have a pint or a coffee next time your in the area, you'll enjoy yourself.
