No it doesnt look at Howard playing same position as Connolly doesnt contribute much in regard to scoring but no one is going to question his ability. Your arguement is poor with very little basis if scoring is all you have to fall back on.

Apples and oranges there. Thanks for your input.

Looks like Bernard will be in the panel of 26 for the Dubs. Fantastic news if that's the case. An incredible option to have off the bench, with DC, Kevin Mc and Paddy also. Some firepower. Kerry were out on their feet with 15m to go the last day. If Dublin unload their bench in the last quarter it could get very interesting. Kerry did a great job with their blanket though and protected the D very well so Dublin may be forced to get those fresh legs on anyway and to run at them with 20m to go. Regardless of what happens tomorrow I believe this current Dublin team will slip down the pecking order as it enters a period of transition - a lot of the old guard will call it a day or be moved out, possibly even be changes at management level too. Ideal time for this young Kerry team to make their mark over the next three years or so - could even be their turn for a crack at the five-in-a-row. dubdec99 (Dublin) - Posts: 180 - 13/09/2019 14:15:20 2235023 Link 2 |
How would it be apple and oranges your saying that connolly scoring record is not good and your defining his performance on his scoring when he contributes so much more

I never thought I'd see Jim Gavin bowing to pressure but there you go, but in fairness Bernard should never have been dropped from the panel in the first place, it was madness really, but I'd expect Bernard to make a big impact from the bench but sure we know what he and Kevin macvminaman and paddy bring to the party at this stages. Good finishers all the same. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 13/09/2019 15:25:47 2235032 Link 0 |
Had the pleasure of seeing DC play a club All Ireland semi fianl against Corofin back in 2015...... only problem was I didn't realise he was playing till the second half!!!! Liam Silke had him in his pocket all day long.

I dont think the dubs will be going anywhere anytime soon hopefully the likes of my own county roscommon, kildare and cork can join the top guns

I heard Silke went blind after the game. Yeah Connolly showed him his 11 Leinster, 5 AIs, 5 NFL and 2 all-star awards after the ref blew the whistle.

Maybe they can compare club medals and see how they fare out? Easy add All Ireland Medals when surrounded by superstar teammates. you'd swear the way you list his "achievements" he did it all himself.

Yeah Gavin sticking to his principles and picking on form I presume. This young, as Kerry people keep telling us, Kerry team will not have met Bernard, Kevin and Diarmuid running at them at full tilt in the championship before. They'd have watched videos of our previous encounters, when the Kerry backs were just nippers, but contending with them on the pitch in the flesh will be a different story. Murchan, DC and Kev forced three turnovers alone in the last few mins in the drawn game.

If you think Howard and Connolly are similar and that Connolly always played that same role fair play to you. That's what is meant by apples and oranges. Connolly scored for fun through Leinster as a scoring forward and even started full forward on occasions. But now I am being told he is a workhorse who creates not a scorer. Remember THEGOAT was the debate good man.

You mean he carried all his medals with him during the game! surely not.

If Gavin thinks that 'full tilt' Brogan, Connolly and McMenamin will cause such trouble to the Kerry backs he should start them. They're in the squad because they're very experienced and Brogan and Connolly were class acts at their peak. They're subs because they're old and not matchfit.

Club doesn't count. Remember what TheFlaker said you can't judge a player on club and college. How many allstars does Silke have anyway?

Tommy Walsh and killian Spillane scored 1:2 between them the last day would that be more impactful then 3 turn overs? Ah well sure no one knows what tomorrow will bring, i remember Paul Galvin coming in off the bench in 2011 and I was expecting a big impact and a young hungry Dublin team totally diminished his impact. Anyway I'm looking forward to it now, we'll surely know the real squads by this time tomorrow. An Riocht Abu. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 13/09/2019 16:42:13 2235059 Link 0 |
DIarmuid connolly if you look at what he has scored over his career for dublin its just over 2.1 points a game so no he is not a scoring forward so yes he does do a huge amount of work away from scoring. Leave the goat debate its abit childish Tarismelting22 (Roscommon) - Posts: 787 - 13/09/2019 16:42:20 2235060 Link 1 |
Start the younger felllas who have 70 in them. Bring on the all star vets with 20m to go and have them empty the tanks. Sensible approach I would have said. What tired back would want a fresh Kevin or Diarmuid running at them?
