Cork Versus Kilkenny

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I'd have full faith in cork forwards in the space of Croker but I'm still not convinced by their defense, it looks a lot of the time like they're there to be taken to the cleaners. Depends whether or not Kilkenny can make in roads there. Really looking forward to this game, safe travels to all supporters this weekend.

Agree Cork could win by 5 or 6 Kilkenny will have to sweat it out. Wonder if Richie Hogan is fit unusual to see 2 or 3 forwards brought in and Richie sitting there. When he has been in he looks good. He could make a difference in the last 20 minutes. If he got the ball Alward got against Wexford we would be watching Wexford and Cork on Sunday

If the Cork forwards get good ball they'll win but the issue I have with Cork over the last 4/5 years is that their forwards don't work hard enough when they don't have the ball. The focus is always on their backs but too many times the opposition come out without any pressure being put on them.
Also, all the talk this year has been about Reid, yet Horgan is the one that does it day in day out and doesnt get half enough publicity. Paul Murphy has struggled especially in Croke Park the last few years and I expect he will be targeted.
I'll give Cork a hesitant vote, only because I think all 3 of the KK full back line can be got at. P Walsh and ( a less than fully fit) Buckley will need huge games for KK as will Eoin Murphy. P Walsh and Eoin Murphy are the heart beat of the team.

There's football on this weekend too. Kerry vs mayo would be second most exiting.

Good evaluation. I agree with all of this. Horgan has been immense again this year. We know what we get from him. I actually think Aidan Walsh ia a a bit of loss in the forward too. With the likes of Conor Lehane and Shane Kingston (dropped thankfully) you get the odd flash of magic as their skills are sublime but their men will clear ball after ball unopposed. Hopefully Horgan will do enough to negate that. If so Cork to win.

In fairness Alyward has to be the luckiest Kilkenny player ever, can't imagine Cody giving any other fella a second chance like he did him.

But does Horgan do it day in-day out. He was very poor on Sean Finn last year and I have often seen him play below par for The Glen. On his day he is brilliant but I do not think he has the consistency of Reid. Kilkenny are outsiders, according to most of the pundits. Down the years KK teams, even average ones, just love, and often thrive, on that.

Harnedy is the consistent one. They guy delivers day in and day out since 2013.

No matter who wins today, and I believe Kilkenny will win it, neither team will go pass next match. But I am looking forward to what has all the makings of a cracking game of hurling.

Great game but can Nash stop saying wide for every Kilkenny score , they have hawk eye so I don't get why he keeps doing it.

Abit of a slow burner so far..the first 15minutes were as dull as dish water. The atmosphere wasn't good and the ref is poor. Saying all that,a game is threatening to break out . Kilkenny are being efficient. Horgans finish was superb.

Decent game, very loose for a Kilkenny-Cork knock out championship match. That will ultimately suit Cork as the kk backs are criminally slow. Cork already in for a goal, a penalty and about 2 other goal chances besides. Mullen and Leahy need to get into the game for us.

Unbelievable how Kilkenny players are dragging their men back and Cork doing it too.
Doesn't seem to be any bother though.

Kilkenny still look a pale shadow of the great teams of the noughties. Lot of poor passing and fumbling the ball. Not as physical as the teams of old. Entertaining game all the same.
