Roscommon Vs Tyrone

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Interesting match up.

Roscommon at home and on a high after their Connaught title.

Tyrone with a bit of momentum after beating 3 teams easily with big scores. However the 3 teams in question Tyrone would be expecting to beat.

Roscommon have gone defensive/counter attacking this year and it seems to have helped them - not conceding many. Tyrone play the same way so expect it to be tight.

Predictions?

Tyrone will win this handy enough like last year. Mayo beat themselves (17 wides) when they played the Rossies and would more than likely hammer them if they met each other again. Rossies then beat an extremely poor Galway team. Think they could be in for a real hiding this weekend. Tyrone are building nicely and look a dead cert to make it into the last 4. Tyrone by 8/9 points

Im actually really looking forward to this, think it will be great game, two of the best teams in Ireland in Ireland capable of bringing absolute Thunder and Skill in equal proportions.

Hyde will be a tough place go for Tyrone and i think the Rossies will lover the occasion and be hopeful of a scalp here.

Rossies arent getting the credit or acknowledgement of the significant threat they should be. Suit them down to the ground.

One of the most improved team in Ireland for me.

A lot of people writing off Roscommon even before the super eights begin. Roscommon have good footballers but were a little fragile when the going got tough but Cunningham has instilled a bit of belief along with a bit of an edge. They have beaten two division one teams to get this far and the super eights are not new to them. They will struggle against the Dubs but will not fear either Tyrone or Cork. Tyrone are really starting to motor now and the game against Ros will show if they are ready to have another shot at the Dubs. Really looking forward to all the weekend games.

Tyrone to win by at least 4 for me.
Galway were terrible in the 2nd half against Ros, Tyrone won't flop like that.

Interesting game. Still hard to know where Tyrone are at. I talked them down at the start of the year as I felt they didn't beat too much to get to the final last year and then the finale was a damp squib.

And now I am seeing them in Group I fully expect them to qualify from to get into a semi final after again beating teams I expect them to beat. I am as undecided as I was last year. Maybe I am being too harsh on them?

I think this one is as interesting as Kerry v Mayo because it will tell us a lot about where both teams are at.

I think Roscommon have improved this year but you just get the feeling Tyrone are motoring well now with a big focus on Sam. As a squad there aren't many better than Tyrone when they get going like the past few weeks and I'm not sure if Roscommon have it in them to stop that running game. I was very disappointed with Cavan last week but you have to say Tyrone put them away very impressively.

The Rossies should take huge confidence in how much they've improved this year in winning Connacht though, and the home advantage can't be underestimated (although Tyrone seem to love going on the road as well!).

Very interested in seeing how this one pans out.

If Roscommon can get a good start unlike their Connaught final, they are in with a really good chance. Tyrone are really good at leading for an entire game, but when they go behind and go in at half time down, they are a different team imo.

I would still fancy them in this game, but I would definitely not rule out Ross.

Tyrone win this at a canter.......Roscommon beat a nothing Galway team. Roscommon will lose all 3 games.

Yes agree.....Roscommon are a nothing team really. Suffered heavy defeats in super 8s last season and I expect something similar this time. Cork will beat them too.

Roscommon getting alot of bashing here especially from galway folk which is needed or deserved really. ask me the same question 3 weeks ago i would have said id expect ros to go very close to beating tyrone but with the run they have been on it hurts me to say tyrone by 4 or 5.

Sometimes i wonder are you better off getting a run in the quailifiers instead of winning the provincial championship, all will be revealed saturday. Best of luck to the Roscommon lads who owe us nothing after the connacht win and id say to the couple of galway fans here dont be so bitter by galway us a nothing team

from a Roscommon point of view this will be the real test to see if we have improved on last year, confidenece should be high after beating Mayo and Galway away from home (despite what some detractors are saying about our opponents performances). Also we have a lot of players who were not involved in last years Super 8's, so hopefully wouldn't be carrying the baggage from that. Also we have added a bit more physicality to the team. I am still unsure if we have got an effective defensive play in place, but I hope the team prove me wrong. It now waits to be seen if we can go toe to toe with a seasoned team like Tyrone who have built a bit of momentum since the Donegal defeat. Come Sat around 6:30 we will know how far this team has improved under Anthony Cunningham if indeed they have.

Think Roscommon can win this and give themselves a real chance of making semis. Done everything asked of them so far and they're no soft touch in the Hyde. Tissues by 2.

Tyrone have used the qualifiers to get their mojo back and work out their method of play. Hard to know where they're at exactly as Cavan had very little intensity last weekend, and the game was done before half time. Rossies have been left idle since the Galway game which may or may not be a benefit.
Regular games seems to suit the top teams and whether people like it or not, Tyrone have proven to be one of the top teams over the last couple of years.
Can see this being the game of the weekend, fancy Tyrone by 3-4 but home advantage will drive Rossies on that extra bit, so who knows!

I think Roscommon will win and I am looking forward to it, having 50% DNA from there I will be shouting for them to take Sam home

Rosscommon look a much stronger proposition than at the same stage last year when they had that "glad to be here" look about them.

The new management team have added a bit of steel and organisation to them. On this season's league meeting you'd say there's little between them but Tyrone have definitely improved significantly from their early season league form.
Since the Ulster loss to Donegal we have largely been "killing dead things" in the qualifiers and Rosscomon will be our 1st encounter with an in form team since Donegal, I expect this to be a fairly close encounter but expect us to edge it by a few scores.

Really looking forward to a good competitive game as both sides know this game is a must win if they are to realise ambitions of a semi-final

Ros will ambush them in the Hyde as they will be exhausted from the 12th celebrations and all the singing and marching. Could Tyrone sing the anthem before the game or will they be wiped out from bus trip?

I'm not bashing Roscommon but it's true that Mayo had 17 wides and should have beaten them while Galway were beating them handy till they put the slippers on and lit up the pipe!
Tyrone are a much more unforgiving outfit.

Fridge - what is your opinion on the behaviour of the Tyrone team members going through Aughnacloy after the game in Clones? Have to say I was surprised & dismayed. Not a dig, just wondering what Tyrone supporters think of it.
