Empty stadiums and big beatings. The super eights are going as well as last year's Thelonesomegoose (Leitrim) - Posts: 204 - 20/07/2019 20:47:58 2213678 Link 2 |
They were out of their depth today against Dublin as most teams would be in Croke Park. A highly fancied Tyrone team beat them by 4 points and Roscommon are in the Super 8s on merit, best team in the Connacht Championship 2019.

GAA fans don't like to pessimistic as we love our sports but the the Super 8's predictability is hard to watch as it's making football a laughing stock. Fair play to the GAA for thinking outside the box but it can't continue. There simply isn't 8 top teams at the minute to make this work. What's the point with the problems facing clubs of Roscommon treking to Cork in two weeks or Dublin treking upto Omagh? I'm not sure of the solution but the Championship needs to rotate back to pre Super 8's in 2020 whilst a system is found that has at least some interest. If they insist in having a group system then maybe a Super 4 could be trialled instead but the Super 8 concept has failed. sam1884 (UK) - Posts: 999 - 20/07/2019 21:36:22 2213712 Link 2 |

Tirchonaill, you are a very strange Donegal supporter indeed & probably wrote Donegal off in 2014 as well. Your sort of negativity is a pain, MuckrossHead (Donegal) - Posts: 5028 - 21/07/2019 23:26:46 2214413 Link 1 |
Got there on merit. We have huge work to bridge the gap with Dublin the best team of all time only but as Cunningham said we won't be throwing in the towel ..the easy thing to do. Now you get back to the cricket celebrations let a good lad and tune into the premiership when it starts.

Fancy Tyrone to defeat Dublin in Omagh now, which would leave them finished top of Group 2. green and gold (Donegal) - Posts: 105 - 22/07/2019 14:29:24 2214734 Link 0 |
Citing the league win is giving a false perspective. Forget it.

I reckon Tryone will be happy not to beat Dublin. If they do have a gameplan for beating them why employ it now? Dublin will only learn from them and tweak things for next meeting. Can't see anything except a Dublin win. Al_Maguire (Donegal) - Posts: 259 - 22/07/2019 16:04:35 2214803 Link 0 |
Because you need to know that it works.! If this was Dublin coming to Ballybofey for the last game in similar circumstances, I would not be happy with Donegal forfeiting the result. I'm sure all the top county coaches have alternative systems and plans (B, C, D & E) that they would wish to try out against their rivals, in the safe knowledge that there is a safety net...do you not think Dublin will want to give away anything either?

Neither side will play a first 15 when they are out 6 and 7 days later when the 3 possible oponents are probably of similar ability. OhtobeARossie (Roscommon) - Posts: 1792 - 22/07/2019 18:00:48 2214869 Link 0 |
I reckon Mickey will be out with the white line rollers again looking to reduce the area of the pitch to that of a matchbox, hoping that this will make the task of packing the defence even easier and forcing the Dubs to shoot from distance. I can't see Gavin making sweeping changes. He'll want to win, as a loss may mentally disrupt them but he will also want to maintain rhythm and momentum. He may make a couple of tweaks, any of Fenton, Howard, Jack and Kilkenny may not start. I think both teams will go for it. No point in trying to play for first or second. You're going to have to beat both top teams in the other group anyway to win Sam. Joxer (Dublin) - Posts: 4742 - 22/07/2019 18:18:51 2214877 Link 2 |
Donegal, Tyrone, Mayo and Kerry are going well to be fair. There's that gap then that everyone is talking about. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8772 - 22/07/2019 18:27:06 2214883 Link 0 |
I agree. A defeat for either team will mess with the pschy. If Dublin loose in the championship it might hurt this invincible aura about them . Tyrone will get disheartened too by a defeat at home . Both teams will go for it . Tyrone get a well deserved break this weekend having played an unbelievable five weeks in a row and all away games which is mental . One thing they'll be fit and conditioned. I think we are better than last year's final but by looks of it so are Dublin though neither have been really tested this year so far in all honesty . They'll both get a very quick shock when the match starts and the increased intensity levels kick in. If we can play as well as Donegal did , patient and accurate them we might avoid a hammering

This is probably as close to a friendly as you can get. If Donegal and Kerry are through I don't think there's any advantage to finishing top of the group. If Mayo beat Donegal, maybe it is worth winning to avoid Kerry. Whammo86 (Antrim) - Posts: 4518 - 22/07/2019 19:03:52 2214906 Link 5 |
The 42 conducted a poll and asked should the super 8's be in neutral venues between the counties. Almost 4,000 votes and 91% said yes. I think everyone is rowing in behind this even the Dubs. Jack_Goff (Meath) - Posts: 2920 - 22/07/2019 21:47:26 2214996 Link 5 |

If you think for one minute that Mickey Harte is going to put out a B team to take a whooping from Dublin in Omagh then you don't know much about either Harte or Tyrone people.
