Gaanow

(Oldest Posts First)

Just wanted to post this, because alot of people might not be aware of it. I saw on the main Hoganstand page that the Offaly v Antrim Joe McDonagh match was on something called GAANow today. I have a GAAGO subscription, but had never even heard of GAANow. Looked it up, and its a video service hosted on the official GAA website, and its now showing live games apparently!

I'm not sure if they've been doing this long, but its pretty great to have this additional streaming option, and its free. The match today wasn't been shown anywhere else, so its great to be able to see it. If it wasn't for it being listed on hoganstand, I wouldn't have known about it, so others might now know about it either, hence this post.
BTW, a very enjoyable first half's hurling from Offaly and Antrim.

Watched the second half. Without doubt the best hurling game this season at any level. If there is a better game this season, it will be something. Antrim looking good.

Must give the GAA credit when it is due great match coverage and good commentary along with Noel Hickey giving sensible punditry. Wasn't expecting a great deal from the two teams but was glad to be so wrong. However Antrim need to show movement off the ball and work for each other. The first tier teams always have an out ball with guys running off the shoulder, Antrim dont, they tend to wait until a player runs into a cul de sac before they move towards the player with the ball. It's small things that make bit differences.

Disgrace that that is the best the GAA could come up with (begrudgingly, mainly as they were criticised in the media for not showing any of it on TSG, or live).
These matches should be on TG4.

Jesus wept lad. Some people are able to do nothing but give out.

Agree it should be on TV but if that is not possible then GAANOW is a very good alternative. TG4 is a fantastic channel however given that Irish language is not compulsary in schools in Northern Ireland the majority of GAA people in the north wouldn't understand the commentary if it was on TG4. This is a positive step in the right direction by the GAA PRO and who knows RTe may catch on that there is quality matches outside Munster and Leinster in hurling, I wonder is there a mechanism for checking how many people tuned in live. The GAA need to get the word out that next week there is the choice of the two Joe McDonagh Cup matches on GAANOW. You could either congratulate the GAA for listening to the people and acting fast to promote the JMcD Cup OR you could start believing that the GAA are only showing second tier hurling now to sell the idea that second tier football will be promoted on networks such as GAANOW to gain support for a second/third tier football championship. I hope it's the former.

Sure ring TG4 and tell them you'll fund them to broadcast these games.....

The audience reached for the games on GAA now would not have reached thousands. I didn't even know it was on.
If TG4 can justify a county final in October, I'd say they can justify a critical game in the 2nd biggest hurling competition.

That is true and very true how badly publicised it was. But for TG4 to do a live TV broadcast would cost a few quid. Costs very little to do a livestream, apparently any individual can stream on YouTube. Not a perfect option but if they were well publicised counties might get a bit of extra sponsorship and a lot more can see live games not involving the so-called bigger counties.

Due to my own sporting efforts, I'm not in Tralee today. The GAA Now platform is providing the Kerry v Offaly big game coverage.
