Yes.

Nearly 10k for a nothing game is pretty good in my book. I doubt there'd be many Kerry in that amount either. I don't think there's many counties would get more than that in the same situation in all honesty.

There were provincial matches with bigger crowds.

Replying To tomhealycork:  "Outstanding Meath crowd. The team got a lot of bad PR for the Dublin game this year. Personally I thought there was a lot to admire about their performance, their defense was unreal in the first half winning the majority of man to man duels, a bit more luck on front of goal and the narrative on the game could have been very different. Good to see Meath football people have realised the potential in their team. Would be great to see them push on next year."
Yeah compared to the Cork vs Roscommon match it was a big attendance. If Meaths population was 1.5M and you scaled it up there would have been 70K people at the match. Attendances will be big in Navan for the league next year.

Provincial matches with something on the line. There was nothing in this for Meath, and it's great so many showed up as a send-off to what's been a great year for them.

Dunno what you're expecting really. Unless you think more Kerry people should have travelled which is just as crazy to me considering they're up the road again the following week. These trips aren't cheap!

No first and second round provincial games. I'd expect a Meath and Kerry game in Navan to be getting north of 15k, given it's a county of a big population, in a quarter final and as you say a victory lap of sorts after a relatively good year.

It's sad to see crowds that size for a county like Meath, like I've said I've seen Meath mobilized, that attendance isn't even close to a passing interest.

I think the Meath public interest in Meath county football has warned.

Maybe as Jack has suggested they've just given in to Dublin and waived the white flag at it.

It doesn't matter if it's first round provincial, it still has something on the line, progression in your provincial championship!

People calling a nothing game at the end of a Super 8s a "quarter-final" is ridiculous and all

I'm sorry I got involved in whatever wee point scoring you're having with the Meath fella anyway.

Its ok to differ in opinion and fundamentally we do on this point.

Back in the day a Meath Vs Kerry quarter final, would be getting a crowd north of 40-50k, if not more.

As i say its unfortunate after a good year relatively for Meath.

Yeah but back in the day meath had a chance of winning the AI and now we have ZERO chance. Everybody knows we'll never be able to beat Dublin again. Plus it's not a legit quarter final, it's a complete and utter dead rubber for Meath.

34,000 at Kerry v Tyrone a extremely low crowd at an all Ireland semi final between these counties .
So many games week on week is leading to overkill of supporters appetites or pockets plus the perception both teams won't win Sam anyways two factors .

34k seems piss poor for an all Ireland semi final, how does it compare to recent years?

Spot on, big red flag for the GAA hierarchy who have their heads buried in the sand & for the GPA who now want a share. Supporters are only a commodity in the modern GAA.

Lowest since 1996. It would have had over 50k if the teams involved had any chance of beating Dublin but they don't.

Why did Croke park announce Full house on Saturday instead of actual attendance. I know a lot of people who had tickets they didn't use. I would think attendance was more 79000 to 8000O. Why not give actual figure.

An awful lot of the present booming economy is Dublin based , there's an awful lot of people elsewhere in the country on close to minimum wage just getting by and will watch on tv as it's all they can afford .

It's just too e expensive with two kids I believe in a lower price ticket will fill the and the coffers and lead to better atmosphere ......than overpriced tickets half empty stadium crap atmosphere .....but the most important thing is there should be a stamp policy for every intercounty game u attend be it minor junior u20s ect league championship everything stamped so wen tickets go on sale for big games those with most stamps should get priority instead of 20000 tickets given out to sponsor corporate clients.........the gaa needs to get back to in ethos because their greed is going to be the catalyst for pay for play

Over 50k difference in attendances between the two games, that is quite amazing.

The Dubln and Mayo game indicates one thing for me, crowds are there, what the public wants is competitive games.

Its time for a second tier championship, with promotion and relegation.

Its the best thing for football, Croke Park is the biggest driver of revenue for the GAA, that funding if Croke Park can be filled regularly in a two tier championship is the best thing for the game and should be ploughed back in the grass roots.

There isnt 20000 tickets going to sponsors, corporates or clients and the sponsors get tickets as they provide funding for the game at all levels.
Just have a season ticket not some stamp policy. Very simple. That's how super 8 can work well. Main competition needs sides playing more games and have it more streamlined to give more game time for clubs in summer
