Katser it's the same in the new format Kildare senior football championship. There was 64 group games. This weekend is the Intermediate football final between Two Mile House and Monasterevan. Next week is the senior final between Moorefield and Athy who won the league for the first time ever during the summer. lilywhite1 (Kildare) - Posts: 3027 - 11/10/2018 18:49:53 2146112 Link 0 |
Then our Championship after all those group matches has a w/end of play off matches then a w/end of preliminary 1/4 finals then w/end of 1/4 finals then w/end for the 1/2 finals and then the Final!! not including w/end for replays or drawn games! nothing for 5 months (May-Sept) then try and bullock all the games in a couple of months when the weather is bad. I'd say we will probably have our County Final last weekend in November!

What is a preliminary quarter final, followed by a quarter final? I thought Offaly were slow with an October County Final, how many teams in the Galway SFC? thelongridge (Offaly) - Posts: 1879 - 12/10/2018 10:51:19 2146183 Link 0 |
thelongridge, the Kildare format seems to be exactly the same as Galway. A preliminary qf is for teams who didn't top their respective groups. The top four go straight into the qf proper. Then second and third in each group go into a draw for the preliminary qf's. The winners of those games then advance to the qf's .

Two Mile House made history today by winning the Intermediate championship for the first time ever. Having won the All Ireland junior title a few years ago it's a great achievement for one of the smallest clubs in Kildare. lilywhite1 (Kildare) - Posts: 3027 - 14/10/2018 18:29:46 2146477 Link 1 |
As a player I've really not enjoyed the change to our championship structure. I really actually felt we had it perfected prior to this year where I and my club mates have felt overwhelmed by championship games that we have to keep a schedule clear for that may or may not mean anything.

And congrats to the House, was fantastic to see Adam Burke celebrating having had a stroke mid game and nearly dying two years ago Sweetspot (Kildare) - Posts: 341 - 14/10/2018 20:46:47 2146510 Link 0 |
Some game down in Cork tonight. A real barn stormer. I thought the first game was decent but this was something else. BaldyBadger (Cork) - Posts: 313 - 14/10/2018 23:01:34 2146528 Link 0 |
I agree sweetspot the format that was in place prior to this year was better. The first round games played at the beginning of May were meaningless. Hopefully the Co Board will take note of the many critics of the new format. They may well have to since Kildare will play Wicklow in early May next year. In addition championship games will have to be played outside of St. Conleth's Park while the redevelopment is taking place. lilywhite1 (Kildare) - Posts: 3027 - 14/10/2018 23:14:27 2146531 Link 0 |

Matty Forde gave an exhibition of point scoring yesterday in Wexford Senior Football final yesterday. Best footballer i have ever seen in the flesh. LarryOBrother (Wexford) - Posts: 412 - 15/10/2018 14:19:04 2146622 Link 0 |
It seemed to work well but for instance toome got relegated after having more or less the same results as currin. but because of the 5 point games currin or in a league semi final yet toome are relegated. I could be wrong but it doesnt make sense if true, this would be the intermediate league best division in the county and toughest

The Louth Senior Championship final is on this Sunday with the Newtown Blues from Drogheda taking on Naomh Martin from Monsterboice. It will be like a derby match as Monsterboice is just outside Drogheda and both teams know each other very well. The Blues are the current holders and are the most successful club in Louth winning a record 21 Senior Titles. They have not done back to back titles since 2000/2001. The Martins are appearing in the first ever Senior Championship final. OLLIE (Louth) - Posts: 12224 - 17/10/2018 13:51:06 2146972 Link 0 |
Ollie, would you fancy the blues to win by a few to spare?

Castlerahan are appearing in their fourth consecutive Cavan SFC final on Sunday. The Balladuff men will face an extremely young Crosserlough team with an average of 21 in their attempt to win the Oliver Plunkett Cup for the first time. Crosserlough last won the Cavan SFC in 1972 but I expect Castlerahan to finally reach the holy grail this weekend. Crosserlough will be champions again in the not too distant future. gaelicgab (USA) - Posts: 878 - 19/10/2018 14:00:11 2147243 Link 0 |
