All Ireland Final 18 - Dublin V Tyrone

OK I know I am going to be told I am an idiot for suggesting this but hear me out. I think Tyrone should pick a couple of extra defenders and play 15 men behind the ball, don't play with anybody up front at all. I know everybody is suggesting that the way for Tyrone to beat Dublin is have a cut at them, push up on the kick out, go man to man, etc. but in all likelihood this will end up in a 6+ point defeat. My suggestion is to for Tyrone to have everybody behind the their own 60 metre line and let Dublin have the ball, don't even bother contesting Cluxton's kickouts. Try to keep the match low scoring and frustrate Dublin and make them edgy, make the game an arm wrestle. I know what people will say, Dublin are used to the blanket defence and will find a way but I feel Tyrone have a better chance if they play this way.

Sure it was going not a few years ago when two Kerry stalwarts were able to give up their jobs for a while but n order to focus on GAA. How was that funded???

Im my view I hope Tyrone don't do this, they wont win this way. There is nothing wrong with shutting up shop at different stages of the match but to play whole game this way wouldn't be productive. Personally I think Tyrone will approach it pretty much the same way they played Monaghan which is to get points on the board at the start. You cannot let a blanket defence team such as Dublin go ahead because they will play keep ball and defend in packs all day so you'll never reclaim the lead....we need to play like Dublin, get the scores and defend in numbers when protecting our lead, that's why the first quarter is so important, we need to be ahead or at the minimum be level at half time.

They will have to do what Dublin do. Play the game on their own terms, slowing it down, speeding it up when they like.

In order to do this you have to be in the lead and comfortably so. So Tyrone will need goals. They will need about an 85% conversion rate of scoring chances. They will need for Dublin to have an off day too.

the only time dublin have been in trouble when they play has been when teams push up on then, the problem is to do it from start to finish no team has been able to do that. it's always 10 min here and there Dublin have a wobble and then the team stops and Dublin railroad them. Mayo have been the only team that has matched the Dubs in recent years and they are a hard running team that was able to keep dublin under pressure from start to finish.

big question is can tyrone, the closer I get to the match the more of a chance I give them.....

it's going to be a big task for tyrone to overcome the dubs but not impossible, i'm no fan of mh but he's defied the odds and the critics including myself to reach the final. To be in with a realistic chance tyrone will need to get in front early and play ball and then a possible 2pt win would be some result, if they play that stupid basketball game they're fooked, saying that if they are found wanting like last year and chasing a Dublin 3 or 4 point lead then it will be the dubs by 8-9 pts, lets hope on Monday or even sunday night we are talking about the good game of football not the cynicism of both teams { yes the dubs are as cynical as any other team }or the performance of the ref safe travels to all and enjoy the big day unfortunately will be working so it will be rte radio on the mobile

Darran o'sullivan Was hardly a stalwart on the Kerry team, and darrans parents were in the fortunate position to be able to bankroll him for 3 months while he concentrated on his football as he tried to break back into the team after injuries.

Most of the comments I've seen have been balanced and fair. I for example am a lowly humble GAA person seeking inter-provincial fairness in modern Ireland.

Never mind them lads - the usual cohort of Dub posters going out of their way to put the boot into Kerry even when they have an All-Ireland final to look forward to! Says it all about them.

The arrogance and self-importance they show on here is nauseating at this stage and to see the tripe they're now continually posting (and being allowed post) just because they've experienced a few years of unprecedented and extraordinary success.

They think what they have done in 8 years means they can degrade and dismiss Kerry's great history and tradition which has been built up over 120 years. It's really irritating to hear this guff constantly posted by them on the back of a few All-Ireland titles.
At least, like I said, they are not representative of the actual Dublin fans you meet at League games etc.

For the record I had no intention in getting involved in this discussion on the final, until I saw the slurry username was posting.
And that's the last I'll be saying on this thread anyway. The only posting I will be doing on here come Sunday or Monday will be on how our minors got on on Sunday.

To the real Tyrone and Dublin fans out there I hope ye enjoy Sunday.

Ha ha, wait till I take over Mayo - there will no 5-in-a-row for the Dubs. To be fair to Jim, he always played with at least 1 forward, even in the infamous 2011 All-Ireland semi-final we had Colm McFadden up front. I am actually suggesting that Tyrone take it one step further and not play with any forwards. If Tyrone could somehow manage to get some turnovers and then break up the field, they could get scores. Mickey has to try something totally different, if both team set up the same as they have been this year, there is only one winner.

I'm glad someone can admit they were wrong. Takes a big man. Tyrone getting to the final has shut a few negative naysayers up.
However we all know if the get beat it will be back to the same old tripe. MH this MH that. Supporters can be very fickle.

21 degrees, showers in the afternoon but should be dry according to Met Eireann....which should be taken with a pinch of salt sometimes.

I know Tyrone improved since they played in Navan but I have to say I'm genuinely surprised they got to the final, I honestly thought they'd struggle badly to make it out of the qualifiers.

As for the game itself, Tyrone will park every bus known to man and so may hold the Dubs for a little while but it won't be enough. Dublin should win by 6-7pts pulling up, if they hit top gear and go for the jugular then it will be over 10pts.
