Before it even starts I think most people want it scrapped. All going according to script, Dublin will meet Mayo in the super 8 groups next year. It could be a cracking game between the two best in the business but to what end? Both will advance anyway and what should be the outstanding game of the year could well be reduced to a dead rubber. Don't think any of that is a forgone conclusion Mayo could be in with Cork or Kerry as easily as Dublin if they win Connacht. One of Galway or Roscommon could be in with Dublin. Also there won't be any givemes from Ulster teams and Cork gave Mayo a scare. I'm a huge fan of the super 8, the provincials have led to easy pathways for Dublin and Kerry, next year things will be fairer by blocking easy routes. Thus it's fairer. I'm all for it. An off day can be recovered from" I dont think it will be easier mate, you will have the play a team from every province to win it, unless a team from the qualifiers knock out a provincial runner up, just my opinion. You also get a chance to recover now in the qualifiers unless you win the province, i mean Mayo lost a game to Galway this year and could have won the all ireland yesterday. I think you may see teams try and do different things, in a league format rather then knock out. The context to this may be fasinating and with match ups for the semi final based on placing the results could be fascinating. I can't see it being anything but an utter waste of time with more dead rubbers than meaningful games. The qualifiers has already reduced the chances of any of the big 3 getting knocked out before the semifinals. The comically named Super 8 will further reduce this to zero. At least this year there were only 4 one sided quarterfinals out of 5 and 1 one sided semi. Next year we can expect at least 7 hammerings in the new set up and another in one of the semis. Yeah that's how the draw works in 2018. I think it should be given a chance for now, even though I have concerns about it. I think teams will get opportunities to learn from defeats and improve. The Croke Park games get played first and should be more exciting than the quarterfinal line ups that we see. Provincial champions play one another in Croke, followed by qualifiers playing one another. So a team getting to the last 8 through the back door likely has a better shot at a win in Croke Park. Quite often you will have the situation where a winning qualifier plays a losing Provincial champion at home in a winner takes all group game. The home and away factor will add a new dynamic to the competition. As far as I can tell all neutral games are in Croke Park so Dublin do retain an advantage in that regard. Anyone else really looking forward to them, i am a huge fan of the new Super 8 format for many reasons: So here we go: Group A - Connacht, Munster, Ulster loser/qualifier, Leinster loser/qualifier. Group B - Leinster, Ulster, Connacht loser/qualifier, Munster loser/qualifier. Order of fixtures in both groups Round 1 Team 1 v Team 2. Croke Park Team 3 v Team 4. Croke Park Round 2 Team 1 v Team 3 or 4. Home advantage for provincial champions. Team 2 V Team 3 or 4. Home advantage for provincial champions. Round 3 Team 1 v Team 3 or 4. The Super 8 itself I think will be brilliant however it obviously has knock on negative effects on club and counties that don't make it. I know were your coming from mate, but say we accept that the provincials aren't fair, Munster and Leinster bar a major upset are forgone conclusions. Both those provincials arguably create an unfair advantage for say Dublin (as i dont want this to kick off). With Connacht and Ulster almost impossible to call, an arguable point is that for the likes of Roscommon, Mayo, Galway, Cavan, Monghan, Donegal and Tyrone it makes it fairer as they arent being handicap by far more competitive provinces. Just on another point, it also safeguards against being in a province with a behemoth of a team like a Kerry and Dublin who pretty much have dominated their provinces every year, Tipp, Kildare, Clare, Cork, Meath and Westmeath all have a fighting chance and a reasonable expectation of making the later end of the championship regardless of results against a Kerry or Dublin. Easiest way to view this is Kerry as Munster champs in 1 group with Dublin as Leinster champions are in the other group, Kerry will have the Connacht champs in their group with 2 qualifiers, Dublin will have Ulster champs and 2 qualifiers riverboys (Mayo) - Posts: 1389 - 12/04/2018 16:42:20 2092634 Link
One thing that hasnt been made clear is how many games do Dublin play in croke park ? Its meant to be one home one away and one in croker ,seen as croke is a home ground for the dubs they must play 2 games there ?
