I think you are janesboro. There was a degree of ambiguity as to what the phrase actually meant.

I know it's quite dark humour but when I was at 2008 All Ireland Final there was some Tyrone lads with a flag referencing men in beards and the twin towers - clever but defo dark humour!!! IrishGael3 (USA) - Posts: 1092 - 17/08/2017 12:00:14 2034635 Link 0 |

Not a flag one but a funny one. During one of the old epic Leinster final matches between Kilk and Wex the first day was a draw. The second day they were level again coming near the end. The banter was over and back between the supporters when a Wexford lad jumped up and shouted "Ye pissed on yere ammunition in 98 rather than fight. " Could not make any sense of it. Class, that story has been deposited in the memory bank for future use.

The origin of that story is actually on the Laois/Kilkenny border at Doonane. After Vinegar Hill 21st June 1798 a band of United Irishmen under Fr. Murphy of Boolavogue fame went north hoping to seek support from the miners of the Castlecomer plateau region as they had the name of being militant. Some of the Doonane miners fought in the battle of Castlecomer and went south towards Baunreagh in Carlow. However the Doonane Laois men finding themselves moving away from their homes and strongholds stole away with guns and gunpowder during the night in central Carlow. Drink was taken and some of the gunpowder 'allegedly' peeded on and destroyed. It didn't matter that Doonane was in Laois on the KK border Wexford people shouted 'ye pissed in the powder' at KK matches up to the 1990s. Heard it myself. My source for this being Laois is Doonane is 5 miles from home and i'll also quote Wexford historian Nicky Furlong on it. Laois76 (Laois) - Posts: 1270 - 18/08/2017 16:54:21 2035169 Link 6 |
