So hard to choose a footballer even if your just picking from the Kerry lads alone: Maurice Fitz, Moynihan, the three O'Se's, Galvin, Donaghy, Gooch, O'Donoghue - but I'm going to go for Declan O'Sullivan. He's performance in the 'quarter back' role in 2014 Munster final alone was perhaps the best display I've ever witnessed first hand of any Kerry player. My non Kerry choice would be Sean Cavanagh, in his prime around 2008 he was immense. As for hurling, think it would have to be John Mullane with an honorable mention to Shefflin, Tommy Wlash and hell let's face it, probably every member of the Cats team from 2006-2009!!! As a Galway man i could throw in a few names but the 1 hurler that sticks out in my mind is Brian Whelahan. What he did at full forward in the all Ireland final the day he had flu and hadn't the legs for the half back line.....wow. Consistency, power, strength, balance......it always looked effortless. Loved watching him. Football wise there is many who have had great careers and then there are a few that for a short period of time were unplayable. Loved watching Michael Donnellan between 98 and 01. At full speed he was a joy to watch. Gooch obviously dd it over a long period. Have to say a certain D Connolly seems to be the most gifted. You could argue Canavan, Joyce, Moynihan and lots others. McManus from Monaghan looks special but the joyless brand of football probably doesn't give him the platform he deserves. Hurling - DJ Carey. Not that I know much about hurling, but everything he did looked effortless. Football - Frank McGuigan I have no issues with people favouring players from their own county (we're all biased), but I have to laugh when I read people from outside Tyrone saying, for instance, that Seán Cavanagh "better" than Canavan. Really, if you seriously believe that, only 2 conclusions follow: - you never saw Peter playing much; or - you know very little about football Big Seán in his pomp was a magnificent footballer, but having watched both men play on countless occasions, I'm sorry, it's not even close. PC on a different planet. And, for me, even PC still behind 'The Bear' - Frank McGuigan - who was for my money the most complete footballer I've ever seen. Hurling toss between Eoin Kelly (Tipp) and Joe Canning. Football Colm Cooper. From a Limerick only perspective: hurling - Andrew O'Shaughness when at his peak was the most exciting forward I've seen, Ciaran Carey otherwise. football - Ian Ryan's 3-7 v Meath will live long in the memory and having marked and been roasted by him numerous times in club games he is my pick as the best Limerick footballer I've seen live. well lads for me in hurling it has to be Tommy Walsh They say in sport ,the good lord doesn't give it all to just one man he kinda spreads it around like . But he definetly gave Tommy very close to all of it , if not it all . Just for the sake of argument can anyone tell me what he couldn't do ?
