When Mayo are playing " They are lacking a marque forward" . Repeated more than psalms at mass.

In General:

They're a second half team. . .( As if they chose to do so)

They didn't show up today.(obviously)

They look a real threat going forward(again obviously).

"They were lacking in leaders " This is always thrown out now when really the truth is the other team have better players or performed better on the day. I know this is soccer but ive heard the phrase lacking in leaders being used about every premier league team in the past two seasons at one stage or another. Its baloney. Kilkenny hurlers for example arent lacking in leaders. They just dont have as many good players any more.

It drives them nuts but serves them right for using such a hackneyed cliche.

Another one that gets my goat is the amount of times a commentator/analyst will say "the goalkeeper had no chance" whenever a goal is scored, when a lot of the time the goalie did have a chance to save it but just wasn't able to. It's just one of those zombie lines that commentators use without thinking about whether it's factually correct or not. I find Marty and Carney are particularly guilty in using this one.

marty morrissey is the worst for cliches or simply not reading the game...

the freak goal louth got against meath this year. he said that it was a brilliant lob.. now how was it a lob when it was an open goal? did he lob thin air? plus he clearly miss-hit the shot and was going for a point!

Darragh Maloney is the best commentator I think. Plus you need younger guys doing the co-commentary who are more in tune with the nuances of the modern game. Carney, Carr, etc are woeful.

The best presenter by far is O'Cinnéide. No harm to Des Cahill, he's a likable sort but he too often wanders in to cliche land as well.

I always think of this comment by the great Micheal O'Muircheartaigh and you have to say this in his voice ' a great catch by the midfielder who turns to the goal and runs, he's on the 50, he's on the 40, he's on the 30, he's on the grounddd'
Another commentator once said 'would the last person leaving the county for the All Ireland Final please turn off the lights'
But the best has to be Blinkers Whelan 'Diarmuid (Connolly) was targeted by Lee Keegan today, look his jersey was nearly ripped off him, the ref for the replay will have to watch out and protect quality players like Diarmuid Connolly'. Didn't hear much from Blinkers about protecting linesmen

I always hate how a ball kicked along the ground is referred to as soccer style. As Gaelic Football is a ball game, it is a genuine skill to play the ball along the ground if clearing it etc. and you've no time to pick the ball up, so I see no need to refer to it as soccer style. Commentators do it constantly and I hate it.
