As usual RD has to turn up and turn into some nonsense about his own county. TheWestIsAwake (UK) - Posts: 529 - 13/06/2017 10:37:45 1998925 Link 2 |
I have a feeling that Galway are going to make a major breakthrough in the next few years. They had a good championship last year but got caught out by a good Tipp side in the All-Ireland quarter-finals. They seem to have improved again this year and have some really top players in Conroy, Comer and Shane Walsh. I also think it is easy to see where they can improve, they look a bit vulnerable at the back but they can shore this up, they need to stop taking suicidal short kick outs and trust their midfielders. They also could do with killing off games more clinically. They really should have had Mayo out of sight with 10 minutes to go, rather than hanging on. I am really impressed with this Galway team and they seem to be the most likely to break the top 6 teams - if they haven't already done so. I would expect them to win Connaught now and they would be no pushovers for Kerry in a potential All-Ireland semi-final. This year might be too soon to expect that Galway could mount a serious All-Ireland challenge but I would expect them to do so in the next few years. Are Galway now better than Mayo? giveballaghback (Roscommon) - Posts: 296 - 13/06/2017 22:26:35 1999352 Link 0 |
We caught them on the hop again!!!!!!!! HA HA. Yes we are, and I expect galway to make at least a semi if not a final. I really thought the margin would be 6-8, and were it not for calamitous defending, and our insane first half tactics, I think it would have been. On a dry day in Croker, galway by six. galwaydublin (Galway) - Posts: 226 - 13/06/2017 22:40:14 1999355 Link 1 |
Galway are improving no doubt about that . They look in very good nick . TheRightStuff (Donegal) - Posts: 1688 - 14/06/2017 12:21:50 1999536 Link 0 |
I could be wrong here but if and big ifs here.... IF mayo get through the back door they will be playing Kerry in a 1/4 (presuming Kerry beat Cork which is just a thing that will happen) If they beat Kerry they will be up against The winners of Connaught and the winners of the other qualifying group. . .That sets up a possible rematch in Croke park. With a lot of IF's as Kerry is a huge task...but that re-match would be very interesting. GameOfTyrones (Tyrone) - Posts: 469 - 14/06/2017 14:36:04 1999603 Link 0 |
Go easy lad - how many times do you want to see Mayo bate in a year?! Seriously though, I know the whole Tip thing was a disaster last year but Galway have only lost 1 game (Meath in the league - without Comer) since. I think they have learned and developed since the Tip game and are still learning - I cant bloody wait to see the likes of Brannigan, Daly, Heaney and Walsh in the wide open spaces of Croker (minus the Atlantic gale of the weekend!). We sure did!! Here's hoping we can catch Roscommon on the hop in the Connaught final. Presuming, of course, the Rossies catch Leitrim on the hop first.... streaker (Galway) - Posts: 512 - 14/06/2017 16:13:02 1999645 Link 0 |

Ah come on Belclare. Your picking the comments that upset you. Most Mayo fans are blaming management decision, 14 men and our short comings up front. Galway were the better team on the day but you hardly except Mayo fans to analyse in depth why Galway won. It is only natural Mayo fans will look to why Mayo didn't win. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11563 - 14/06/2017 17:13:53 1999669 Link 1 |
Back to back championship wins over Mayo is impressive. Galway have to back it up in the All-Ireland series and the league. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8780 - 14/06/2017 17:20:47 1999673 Link 1 |

Agreed Yew-Tree, the vast majority of Mayo fans have taken this on the chin. For what it's worth I think this Mayo team is capable of way more and a lot of the decisions made on the side line didn't help you the last day. I wouldn't rule ye out at all, and wouldn't be surprised to see ye make the semi's or even another final. Based on what I saw the last day I'd question ye're ability to win a big game (mainly on the basis that ye're manager seems a little lost), but I'd definitely rank ye fourth after Dublin, Kerry, and Tyrone. Galway need to win a few games at championship level outside Connacht before we can start talking about being the better team. festinog (Galway) - Posts: 3148 - 14/06/2017 20:40:09 1999730 Link 0 |

Well on the last 2 head to head results Galway are the better team but in all honestly Mayo should have destroyed Galway in the 2nd half playing with a strong wind, the fault lies with the Mayo management, why? There is only 2 ways to play against the wind either you carry the ball and run at the opposition and get close in shots at the posts or else you kick long range shots which 100% of the time the ball will end up going over the sideline and into the stands so the Mayo management knew full well that Galway would run at them and look for short range scores in the 2nd half so why didn't Mayo use their strongest hand in the backs, Higgins was sent off but Harrison should have been brought on to keep our 6 backs in place instead of using a half forward in the backs and he could have done the exact same tactic as Higgins was told to do. We could have taken off Diarmuid O'Connor or Coen as both had a quiet game and let Cillian O'Connor or Kevin McLoughlin play on the 45m line and have a 2 man full forward line Galway used the spare man around midfield and ran at Mayo. With the Mayo defence in a strong position Galway running at them may not have worked as easy as it did and the ball could be played fast into our forwards. That was a big mistake Mayo made, the 2nd was taking off our main scoring threat and putting a midfielder in his place and then not passing the ball to him, a waste of a substitution, then putting Boyle on at the end to try to block the leak in our defence with sellotape, if he was fit enough to play then he should have started. Yet again Mayo management have us bewildered with their decisions and the clock is ticking down on their time in the job, when Mayo eventually bow out of the championship so do they riverboys (Mayo) - Posts: 1389 - 15/06/2017 11:39:02 1999884 Link 0 |
