I only saw the last half hour. Thought the ref was good, let the game flow. It's a physical game and I'd rather watch a game flow with a few hits where a ref makes a few mistakes than a stop start game ruined by a trigger-happy ref. Delighted for Down, great performance, can't understand Armagh not taking their chances for points, think Mc Geeney not being on the line makes a difference some how, will Brolly eat his words now, all the bs he has been spouting about Armagh being this great attacking team, they looked a bit clueless to me at times. entertaining game all the same. wish we could transfer Mooney from Down to Donegal!! As I have said many times. before, It is not the ref's job to "Let the game flow" . It is the rwf's job to apply the rules. if it's a foul it's a free. Conor Lane missed or chose to ignore numerous fouls . this can also lead to skirmishes. also at the end, the players were off the field . let armagh players take the free. the players would soon resume. Yip. That's it. Because I prefer a referee who let's a game flow I typify what's wrong with Gaelic football regarding the rules. Me being the experienced referee and the guy who writes the rules of Gaelic football. I also drive a car so I must have written the rules of the road. Inconsistency of referee what about inconsistency of the SG commentators. 2 examples: Martin Carney "that's a dark cloud over what has been a great game, second half wasn't great but overall a good contest" - which is it Martin? Joe Brolly " the obligatory depressing finale of forward going for goal and is brought down - heroic gesture by McKernan" - he didn't say that about Sean Cavanagh - in fact he questioned his manhood - "if a player doesn't do it there will be questions in the changing room" - which is it Joe. He helped contribute to a great first half. I think both teams got nervous of getting beat in the second half, especially Armagh, and both teams made mistakes and fouled. I thoroughly enjoyable game from two teams that in all honesty will bow out early of this year's All Ireland championship. Down will take this win regardless, I thought we were the better team overall and should have won more comfortably. Get 3 knowledgeable Gaelic football people looking at an incident -- one will see a free in, another will see a free out, and the third mightn't see a free at all!! There's another thread running here about a "refereeing crisis". Referees are hardly to blame when an argument can be made for and against a free being given depending on how you interpret a given incident.
