Five dual players with Erne Gaels are facing the prospect of playing two championship matches on successive days next weekend following the decision to postpone last Sunday’s Fermanagh SFC final against Enniskillen Gaels.
The New York Cup decider was called off on Sunday morning due to the impact of Storm Ashley and rescheduled for this Sunday at 4pm in Brewster Park. But with the Erne Gaels hurlers also down to play Sean Treacy’s of Armagh in the Ulster Club JHC on Saturday, some players could be asked to play two games in the space of 24 hours.
Erne Gaels football manager Declan Bonner has criticised Fermanagh GAA’s handling of the county final, claiming that it should have been brought forward to last Saturday and played as a double-header with the IFC final between Lisnaskea and Irvinestown given the weather warning that was in place for the following day.
