Dublin were able to survive Wexford’s late comeback at Croke Park to secure a 1-22 to 0-23 victory and leave themselves in the driving-seat for third spot in the Leinster senior hurling championship.

Micheál Donoghue’s men had been 0-6 to 0-5 in front when Cian O’Sullivan flicked in their goal midway through the first-half off a long ball into Wexford’s square from Donal Burke.

Burke, who finished with 0-13, added a couple of frees to keep the capital men four ahead prior to points from Richie Lawlor and Jack O’Connor at the other end leaving the scoreboard reading 1-9 to 0-10 at the break.

A couple of Lee Chin points had the Slaneysiders level two minutes into the restart but Dublin stretched their lead again via the scores of Burke, substitute Sean Currie and O’Sullivan.

The Model men battled to the finish though as Conor McDonald came off the bench to sail over a brace and Rory O’Connor levelled it (1-20 to 0-23) in the third minute of injury-time.

However, two frees from Burke towards the finish would ensure the victory for Donoghue’s charges and inflict Wexford with their second defeat in the process.
