Carlow will face Offaly in the Joe McDonagh Cup final in two weeks’ time after recording a 1-29 to 0-14 win over the same opposition at Netwatch Cullen Park this evening.

The Faithful men made the trip to Carlow today knowing that their own final berth was secure after last weekend’s 11-point win over Kerry in Tullamore.

The Barrowsiders on the other hand had it all to play for and made a sizzling start against their experimental opponents, running up a 0-8 to 0-1 lead inside the opening 12 minutes.

From there, the hosts went on to lead by double digits (0-16 to 0-6) at the half and got their goal nine minutes into the resumption via Conor Kehoe that all but sealed their passage through to the decider.

In Hawkfield, Down got their first win of the competition by handing Kildare their fifth consecutive loss on a 1-27 to 3-13 scoreline, preserving their own status and relegating the Lilywhites in the process, while Laois earned their third win by comprehensively seeing off Kerry (4-23 to 0-21) in Tralee.
