Derry are 70 minutes away from retaining the Anglo-Celt Cup after seeing off Monaghan with an impressive display in Omagh this evening.

It finished 1-21 to 2-10 in the favour of Rory Gallagher’s men at Healy Park, where ‘Man of the Match’ Conor McCluskey supplied their goal seven minutes before half-time.

Monaghan’s shaky start looked to have been made up for when Karl O’Connell’s goal narrowed their deficit down to one, but McCluskey’s goal and points from Shane McGuigan, who finished with 0-9, Conor Doherty and goalkeeper Odhran Lynch sent Derry towards a commanding 1-12 to 1-5 lead at the break.

The Oak Leafers started the second-half in strong fashion and, despite Karl Gallagher pulling back a goal for the Farney men, they never looked like losing this one.

Next up is an Ulster SFC final date with either Armagh or Down in Clones on May 14.
