Former Derry star Mark Lynch has opened up about his battle with testicular cancer.
The 34-year-old had a tumour removed shortly after the Covid-19 outbreak in 2020 and subsequently underwent three weeks of chemotherapy which has dramatically reduced the chances of the cancer returning.
"It was a massive shock, but I always for some mad reason was aware,” Lynch told the BBC GAA Social podcast of his cancer diagnosis.
“I always think 'that person's got that problem, or there's an accident that has happened with that family. Why is there nothing happening to my family or me'. When it hit me, I thought 'this is part of the road I have to take'.
"A massive shock, and a few sleepless nights absolutely, but because of the diagnosis they were telling me how good the recovery can be I tried to look on the bright side of it as best I could."
