Think your players would rather have the medals than an all star. Theres a great interview with Matty Forde he did a week ago and even though hes our only ever all star he said hed swap it in a heartbeat for the lads he played with to have the Leinster medal they weren't that far away from winning.

Good podcast with Tommy Rooney and Maurice Brosnan on Arena going through the selection process. Although from a purely primrose and blue tinted glasses would have loved to have seen Diarmuid Murtagh win one but was always going to be a big ask given how we exited. You could name a few players unlucky to miss out but over all a very fair spread of players. It takes into account the large number of games played by counties plus the fact that there was no one domineering team.

Surely Charlie McMorrow deserved an All star before Jarly Burns!

If All Stars were handed out for winning Connacht titles or performing in the league Mayo would have double the amount (currently 4th in the overall list behind Kerry, Dublin and Cork). I think twice Mayo only got two all stars for reaching finals. It is what is…the most important prize is Sam Maguire.

There will always be some gripes and people will often complain about who should be in, without saying who should be left out in their place.
However, nothing against Jarly Óg, but I was surprised he got an award. I can't say he stood out massively and Armagh were dumped out of the championship quite early. I thought McMorrow had a better and more impactful year.
Paudie is also unlucky, but with O'Donoghue moved out to centre forward as both of Mayo's young guns deservedly got awards inside, it left limited room.

Maybe but Dublin never getting 2 All Stars in a year they played poorly on at least 2 occasions. If McMorrow got wing back then Oisin Conaty probably get wing forward ahead of NS.

Burns actually played better last year tbh.
Charlie was excellent this season.

McMorrow was better than at least three of the backs chosen. The older Clifford should have got one too.He was better than at least three forwards too.

Kerry played poorly on at least two occasions, as did Mayo. It was a very even year overall, with no team consistently good. Dublin were extremely unlucky not be in the final. They outplayed Kerry in their semi-final.

Don't think so. Armagh won Ulster I think. Jarly Burns their best player. Paidi Cliff and David McBrien the 2 who should have got all stars but didn't for some reason

For alot of the years after they started they went to the the best players, regardless how far their team went. Thats the way they still should be.

Roscommon won Connacht and hammered the eventual All-Ireland champions on the way. By your logic they should have gotten one too. You can pick holes in every form line from the 2026 championship. Pretty much every team had a poor defeat.

Does winning the league mean nothing now even though it is linked to participation in the All Ireland.

For those complaining about jarly og getting an all star, Tommy Rooney and declan bogue were on otb last night and gave detailed explanations for why he was picked, including kick outs won , possessions, impactful runs etc

All stars should be named before the semi finals as ids the case in other sports worldwide. There are so many games now for all teams it would be much fairer to pick the best players of the year then.

All stars always throw up a debate, but the all ireland winners and finalists normally get the lions share and rightly so.
But at intercounty level each team can only win 1 of 2 national titles(all Ireland & National League) and 1 provincial title.
Obviously Zero credit is given to the National league even though it is 1 of only 2 national titles you can win, but there is no way the 4 counties below should have an all star in 2026, ahead of Armagh/Roscommon/Kerry/Westmeath players who all won a provincial title.

(Louth)
While they backed up 2025's performance in 2026 by getting to the provincial final, they lost and Won Nothing
(Tyrone)
Did nothing in Ulster or All ireland of note and Won nothing
(Dublin)
Had some good games at the business end of the championship but got relegated and knocked out early in leinster, Won nothing and got relegated
(Monaghan)
Had a couple of exciting games, but Won nothing and got relegated

While these players are all great players

for example between league and championship
Michael Langan scored 40 points from midfield this season Conn Kilpatrick 9 points
Oisin Conaty scored 41 points this season 20 points more than Niall Scully
Durmuid Murtagh scored 76 points this season 47 points more than Steven O'Hanlon

Disagree with that. Performances on the biggest days have to count for more. It's what players are remembered for.
In sports where there's a long league season, then something like what you mentioned can work, but in a championship with relatively few games, the biggest games can't be excluded.
Competitions like World Cup which is more like the football championship in that it's 7 or 8 games picks it's team of the tournament after the final.

Was Jarly og even a regular starter for Armagh all year.

It's an individual award not a team award. Saying team A won a provincial title, therefore they should have more players than Team B doesn't make any sense. One could simply be a better team, but the other might have an individual player who performed better than anyone they had.
Naturally the teams who get to the latter stages will have more players, as they're generally performing better and there's an opportunity for their players to put in good displays on the biggest days.
Simply looking at scoring is also misleading, especially for players whose role is completely different. I actually thought Con Kilpatrick should have won an award last year. He was very good all year and outstanding against Kerry in the semi-final. He was very good again this year. He's a real driving force from the middle.

Decent research.

Apparently the All Star selection committee had a lot of new faces this year and by the looks of it wanted to be different with some bizarre selections
