Replying To mintyfresh:  "What are the chances he would go in with footballers? He has been very loyal to the hurlers, especially the last few years. Didn't Dessie try to bring him in his last year? I think he would be a great addition and no better man than Mark McHugh to try and get him involved."
Was he not in with the footballers at the start of the year last year? But couldn't shake a niggling injury and so stepped away to deal with it?

Mitchell was in with the footballers in 2026 instead of the hurlers? Dropped himself off the panel due to injury I believe

He wasn't on hurling panel last 12 months and was with footballers extended panel this year for 3-4 months. It's doubtful he will be with hurlers so I'd say he's a cert to be with footballers. He's in better physical condition than in the past, Billy Moffett, Michael Moloney also called in. Football panel will certainly have competition for places if Mitchell, O' Toole, Will Scahill and Luke are involved considering none of those lads were on panel for championship in 26. Add in healthy goalkeeping competition in Adam Buckley and James Mitchell and likes of Ty Masterson, Keelan Connell and others. McHugh certainly will have options.

Replying To WHLeinster2026:  "That rule is only in intercounty hurling (black card for denying a goal scoring opportunity). Yellow card for a push in the back and a free kick for a foul outside the 14 yard square was the correct decision."
You're actually wrong. If a player is cynically brought down when in on goal inside the 20-metre line or the semi-circular arc ('D'), the referee awards a penalty kick to the attacking team and issues a black card to the offending player, sending them to the sin-bin for 10 minutes It was the denial of what would have been a clear goal scoring opportunity.

He was actually in with the footballers last year at the start of the year and I think injury may have hampered his chances.

Bosco cup kicking off this week, i'd imagine CBS too be very strong again with a large part of the teams being the Downs and Shandonagh any idea who is in the goals for them as buckley would have been there goalie the past 2/3 years

Westmeath minor goalkeeper this year was excellent. Name escapes me, but he's also Shamrocks so presume he's in CBS.
From what I hear - Pat's Navan the team to beat this year.

Replying To Meridian:  "There is no such thing as a parish rule. In this day and age, anything that is not written down as an actual rule of the game or association is fair game. Mullingar town has grown enormously over the last 15-20 years. Do people think that it is right that only the 2 town Clubs should benefit from all those extra people living in or on the outskirts of the town?

The 2 Clubs mentioned took advantage of their geographic location to start drawing players from the town. Any other Club in their situation would have done the same."
Thanks for settling the debate.. The Downs are a town team we can all agree on that.

CBS we're very lucky to beat them last year, think they won by a point.

I know when I was younger, The Downs community games catchment area extended to Marlinstown as far as Pettiswood Manor. Whether that is still the case I don't know.

Athlone drew with Tubberclair. You can't rank teams purely on head to head or results, just because St Loman's beat Kinnegad by 10 points and Tubberclair brought St Loman's to extra time doesn't mean Tubberclair will beat Kinnegad. Different teams have different strengths, weaknesses, playing styles etc. Form, injuries, conditions and performances can also be influential.

You're not right either. It has to be an existing black card offence for example a deliberate trip or to deliberately pull an opponent to the ground. A push or yellow/red card is not covered by this but they are considering it for 2027 and that's one of the trial rules

I'm not sure what you are trying to get at. Would Ballycomoyle be considered part of St Lomans catchment area seeing as they have alot of good young footballers from that area playing with them? I could be wrong but i think all players on both sides on Sunday came up through their underage ranks.

Athlone drew with Tclair in the final game when both teams were already through. The Shamrocks Garrycastle game effectively decided who would be in with a chance of finishing 3rd going into the final round of games. Tclair also finished above Athlone so you've ignored half my argument.
