Replying To Yvrjd:  "I was at both games today, and after that hammering, it's hard to believe Annaghdown are one of the top four teams in Galway. But that's the reality of the growing gap between the top teams and the rest, and that gap seems to be getting bigger every year. It also says a lot about the standard of the teams Annaghdown beat to reach the semi-finals. How poor were they.

Moycullen were absolutely phenomenal. Their work rate, creativity, accuracy, movement and overall style of play were a joy to watch. They were utterly ruthless from start to finish, and the quality they have throughout the team is frightening.

Salthill-Knocknacarra against Corofin, on the other hand, was a fairly average game to watch. Corofin have gone backwards considerably over the last two years, particularly in how they play their football. Today, they seemed obsessed with taking the safe, conservative option. They had numerous opportunities in both halves to take on two-pointers, but instead kept recycling it back and forth across the pitch and achieving very little.

I'm genuinely surprised to see Corofin playing this brand of football. By their own high standards, they've been very poorly coached over the last two seasons. I don't know who's responsible for the coaching since Gary came in, but whoever is overseeing it needs to have a serious re-think. The football they're playing is shockingly average to watch by Corofin standards, and it's a million miles away from the positive, attacking football that made them such a brilliant team for so many years.

Today was the first time this championship that Corofin came up against opposition of a similar standard, and they lost. And probably just as well, because playing the way they currently do, Moycullen would have absolutely torn them apart.

That safe, boring, conservative football just isn't the Corofin way, and I find it hard to understand why they've gone down that road. For a club with their tradition, standards and resources, what we've seen this year and last simply isn't good enough. In my opinion, they badly need a change in their coaching setup.

As for Moycullen, it's very hard to see past them after today. They've class all over the pitch, tremendous work rate, a brilliant attacking style and serious depth coming off the bench.

Moycullen to win it out."
Agree 100% with your post, Corofin played with fear, so unlike them and disappointing to see a club who enthralled us with brilliant attacking football now resorting to what we saw today, S/K deserved to win. Now I know Dessie Connelly has been in and out with Galway the last few year but with the new rules and new management he just has to be looked at again, I would rather have him than a lot of forwards currently on the Galway panel, and for the record I'm not a Moycullen clubman

Hard to argue with the above poster , I was really surprised by how poor Corofin were today by their standards. The kickpass seems to have almost totally gone out of their game which was a hallmark of all their great sides , A back (Molloy) was their main scoring threat all game while one of their best forwards in recent years was in goal . Corofin stalwarts will be more worried about the way they lost rather than the loss itself.
A good cohort of their players seemed to have stepped away this year for various reasons , Their intermediates lost to Claregalway B and are in relegation . They have definitely slipped a good bit over the last couple of years and a change up is definetely needed there. Hopefully they do sort themselves out as I am worried about them, a strong Corofin is needed for the overall good of galway football.
Salthill on the other hand will be happy enough to have got the win having suffered injuries to 3 of their better players during the game ,Dan O'fla ,sweeney and power. Mattie Thompson was really class for them today and will be to the front of Eamonn's mind for 2027. However they will know they didnt play well and will have to improve a lot to even make a game of it the next day .
Moycullen really look like men on a misson this year and have been really impressive . The main difference between them this year and last year for me is not their transfers ( only the goalie new this year to last ) but is the directness they bring to their game and overall conditioning . They look absolutely primed and very well coached . They really resemble james horans mayo teams of the 10s in terms of the energy and running power they bring to the game .

Although a bad day for Annaghdown , they have had a great year and can hold their heads high .

Overall though , I cant see past Moycullen . Not just for galway , but for connacht and possibly the all Ireland too ...

Replying To backtooldwall:  "We moved to Moycullen in 2008 our 3 eldest children went to school locally and within a year they were all about the football team and the county and all ireland club championship ( they knew nothing about intermediate or senior )a couple of years later it was hurling, so when 2020 arrived it was their dreamland. They now wonder why there is so much bad feeling being directed towards the lads they knew from down at the pitch or in the local shops.Attitudes seem to to have become very bitter since we moved at the end of 2023 south to Co Tipperary, they are young adults now but they still talk about the welcome and inclusion that Moyculen offered so maybe that's the reason players gravitate towards them, pre 2020 no medal hunters would even consider them. We hope to be in Pearse Stadium as often as possible to add some positive feelings towards Galway GAA.We moved on but can never leave."
I completely agree with this sentiment. I've never experienced quite the same sense of community, warmth and passion as you find in Moycullen. There's such a genuine pride in the place, particularly when it comes to sport. From Olympic medallists and professional footballers to the incredible basketball and GAA talent, it's remarkable what such a small community has produced. It is the way everyone gets behind one another that make it so special. There's a certain amount of passion to Moycullen that's hard to explain unless you've experienced it, my kids have this whole drive that they would not have got if we raised them where I was raised.

If they're a class apart, they should be winning the allireland this winter, and winning the Galway and Connacht championships with some ease in the next few weeks.

Dessie has to be in eamonn Fitz`s plans. Himself & Finnerty put on an exhibition. Moycullen INC will not be stopped and are many peoples favorites for All ireland and rightly so. S/K got over the line and thats what is about but will know they will have to up it considerably to have a chance against Moola Cullen. Caroline Currid has them primed along with James Horan and they are going all in for the All Ireland. Caherlsitrane jsut did enough agains Oranmore who are improving and have age on their spiddal quiertly cgoing about their business and back in Co.final its a hard one to call but think spiddal might jsut have the legs and last years hurt to get them over the line. any news on finals? Would be great if they did a double header but most likely will be seperate with Moola Cullen & SK in Perase & Spiddal & Caherlsitrane in Tuam.

I know Annaghdown didn't really put up much resistance in the second half especially but you have to give credit where it's due, Maigh Cuillin were on a different level. Time will tell regarding how many cups they can win, but starting with the game in two weeks time I couldn't back SK to upset the bookies odds based on the scrappy performance and the injuries Sweeney and DOF seemed to pick up. Maigh Cuillin 2/5 on to lift Frank Fox with PP this morning.

Given the new rules Dessie certainly deserves a chance, Paul Towey who is a similar player to Dessie started for Mayo in the All Ireland Final.

Salthill deservedly through to the final, Maher was brilliant 2nd whilst Thompson showed why he has to be one of the first names on a Galway team going forward. Outstanding workrate and involved in so many Corofin turnovers.

Maigh Cuilinn were physically on a different level to Annaghdown, and as well as that they played very positive football and were absolutely ruthless. They were constantly pushing for openings, taking on their men and playing the ball to the men inside. We all know there's a big gap to the rest outside of the top 3. The likes of Tuam could probably compete a bit better as a 4th team, but they regressed this year.
Salthill will compete much better with them from a physical point of view, and they have some class from the likes of Thompson and Finnerty. It'll be a very different game, but I expect Maigh Cuilinn to shade it.
The second semi-final was a poor enough game. As has been mentioned here, Corofin were very risk averse. 2-07 is a very low score in the modern game. Given that they got two two-pointers, they actually kicked only 7 scores in the whole game. It's not as if they had 15 wides either. I could understand their approach in the first half to some degree, as they were against the wind. They kept the ball for long stretches and wound down the clock. I'd say they were happy going in only 1 down at half-time. Only Molloy really showed some cutting edge. He was by far their best player. Young Coen did also try to take a few on, but his decision making on the day wasn't great and he was eventually replaced.
Someone above mentioned they're worried about Corofin slipping away. They're not as good as they were 7 or 8 years ago for sure, but they'll be challenging again. Their underage teams are doing brilliantly. U13 A final, U14 A final, U15 A final, Minor A North Board winners, and they're in the U19 A county final this week. That's real consistency across the board and they'll have plenty talent coming through.

It's a great sign when you have such a talented player doing things like that. His attitude is excellent and he has real physicality to his game, to add to the brilliant football skills. Hoping he can avoid injury and have a big year in maroon next year.

Why do you think they'll win Galway and Connacht with some ease?

Mis-matches such as that semi-final at the weekend doesn't give full judgement of a team.

As I said about All-Ireland inter county championship when teams get hammered in the last four stage as was the case with Louth and Meath it pretty much tells you their isn't anymore than three genuine contenders in that competition and that appears to be the case in Galway with Salthill Moycullen and Corofin the contenders and well ahead of the rest.

Last year Moycullen beat Salthill by two points in the final and I would expect a similar competitive final this time.

Should Moycullen win they will likely face St Brigids in the semi-final who beat them last year. Next two games if they have two games will give full judgement on Moycullen

Think but not sure that Dessie is heading away again after Moycullen finish up so probably won't be available for Galway ,,,
