Best name on that list of three and will know the county scene best of luck to McEntee. Hopefully he can entice a few names back to playing for the county and introduce a few new ones.

Replying To sleater:  "It is a no brainer - he shouldn't get the role. No matter who Banty brings is as coach, he is such an alpha figure that he will make the tactical calls, decide on the substitutions and pick the team. And that is where he has fallen down in the past. His boom and bust motivational style can work as a once off but is not sustainable."
Looks like the county board have seen sense and not gone with Banty. I thought John McEntee has done a very good job with Inniskeen. They maximised everything they had and came so close to beating Scotstown last year. Having Darren Hughes on board is a wise move. Want to hear move on who the background team is. It's a clean slate and fresh start.

Thanks to Corey and Bannigan for the very difficult jobs of transitioning Monaghan while keeping us very competitive. Monaghan moved from a ageing squad under Banty's last term to a much younger squad now. It needed to happen. The injury crises of 2026 also provided an opportunity to blood a lot of new players which will stand to Monaghan in years to come.

With McEntee as manager I assume Sean Jones and Ciaran McNulty will be back on the county panel next year.

John is probably the best choice from a management perspective but I'd question the coaching quality/track record…

Currin by four, the bog to bottle it
Ballybay by 2 expierience will show,
Donaghmoyne by three garland will be the difference.

McEntee is probably as good as we could have hoped for at this point. He's been around Monaghan club football for 7/8 years at this stage. Nevermind McCague winning championships with Scotstown (any of us on the forum could do that), But McEntee being able to compete with them and even topple them in 2019 is the most impressive managerial feat in Monaghan over the last 10 years. At this stage, bringing in a manager that hasn't seen any club football would have a shambles.
Admittedly, a little underwhelmed at the backroom team.

John mcentee is a top class coach and I'm delighted he's getting the gig..…bit harsh dough on McCague who's proving himself to be a managerial genius who's performing miracles with Scotstown…

It feels an underwhelming appointment but mc entee knows the scene quite well and has done a great job with inniskeen. Lack of interconty experience is my worry

Think john mcentee is a good appointment he is steady on the line doesn't get excited and has done it as a player and manager (clontibret and cross)just hope he brings in a bit of strength and height to the setup carrying 2 or 3 midfielders is not going to cut it in croke Park in July also hope there is frig all emphasis on league football other than staying in third or fourth in div 2 fair enough if we go up but for to long league winter football has defined our year hopefully there will be more emphasis on building a team that can win in croke Park in July strength and height needed to achieve this and give beggan options this last 2 years around the middle was a disaster waiting to happen (2025 donegal 1 14 without reply and louth 2026 20% midfield win rate ) because of the lack of height ,this group with a few additions are good enough to make an all ireland appearance but I do feel we as supporters might need a little patience its not going to happen immediately, so good luck to john and his backroom team and here's hoping muineachan abu
