Credit to Tg4 for building up an audience for both the club and LGFA over the past 25 years. RTE had a poor record and little interest in becoming involved. It's only in very recent years that RTE have realised how entertaining the club matches can be and have chipped in with a Saturday fixture .. losing rights to show other sports no doubt helped them reach this decision . I'm told that at this stage RTE would love to have live broadcast of both the semi and finals of the hurling and football club competition . Would be a pity to see Tg4 lose out as they do great work despite a minority complaining about the language barrier.

Be great to have club matches on rte. It would attract bigger audiences than tg4 id be almost certain.

I'd he hoping that tg4 keep the majority of club games..they deserve huge credit for showing some thrillers from some of the so called weaker counties..RTÉ in the last few years have shown some club games on a Saturday evening,havnt heard anything or even seen an ad that they might start this year.. No its not shocking. Lets be realistic, the County Club Championship matches likely draw very low viewing figures, and RTE get better audiences by having Gogglebox or something else on. And whether we like it or not, they will go with what attracts the most viewers usually. The Club Championships need a major marketing overhaul, particularly at Provincial and All Ireland level. GAA should be airing adverts in the run up to their launch, and also during these Championships, highlighting which Clubs are involved and what County and Province they represent, and who they will potentially meet in the next round and outline of that Championship etc. In order to gain a much bigger audience buy-in, I just think we need to market the Club Championships better. I don't think we necessarily need to change anything about Competition structures etc, just change how these are marketed to the National audience, to attract viewers who might not ordinarily watch one of these games. In Soccer, we see Clubs in the Premier League appeal to fans all over the world, we see loads of Irish people fly to Glasgow every other week to support Glasgow Celtic. County Championships are parochial by nature, but the Provincial and All Ireland Club Championship stages could be sold on a National basis. - To achieve this more broadly, a much better marketing strategy would be required on RTE and social media. - Same for the University & Colleges competitions, like Sigerson Cup and Trench Cup, like the Club Championships, these competitions could be marketed as their own big things.
