It's interesting to hear so many journos asking for var now but weren't interested in the galway complaints against Dublin. Dara ose the only journo calling out the double standards. It's amazing how some counties can influence changes in GAA

I think var will be a catastrophe tbh. Its bad enough in soccer but gaelic football is a full contact sport and almost every goal will have some sort of foul or debatable foul commited in the build up to it.

Unless itll just be used to check for square balls?

Looks like the Irish GAA journalists read the forum as they are only reporting about the AFL Dublin story now.

What I don't understand is the lack of airtime they are giving to the afl plans ? Is it a plan of say nothing and hope if fails ? The Aussies aren't hiding their plans for a Aussies rules international game with Ireland in the long-term. Its all online so the gaa journalists can't control what people know and the professional route the Australians are planning for Ireland.

Again no real hard questions from any GAA journalists about man utd v Leeds at croke park. I didn't even know it was on until last night but it seems GAA journalists have have don't cover anything that might rock the boat mindset ? If they don't report on it it doesn't happen? The lack of AFL discussion, the lack of opening up croke park to soccer for money and finishing the season quickly. The lack of any criticism or discussion by GAA journalists is disappointing especially when the season is over now.

What questions did you want them to ask? I didn't even know it was on either as I have no interest in it. I'm sure most GAA journalists are the same. Nice money for the GAA on a Wednesday evening though. If people are willing to pay that for a mickey mouse friendly, we'll gladly take it.
The GAA season isn't over. In your own county we have hundreds of club championship games this month. Beautiful weather to have them played in and some cracking football and hurling games.

To echo the poster above - what hard questions do you think should be asked??

Firstly, anyone still banging the drum that the hurling & football championships should continue into August or even September clearly has little or no appreciation of the club scene.

Secondly, even if hurling and football was still continuing....couldn't last night's match have gone ahead anyway?

Croke Park was in use last Sunday for the camogie finals. They were obviously able in the course of two or three days to remove the usual goalposts, scrub out the usual pitch markings, and set it up for a soccer match instead. If there were hurling or football semi-finals to be played there this weekend, do you not think they'd be able to scrub out the soccer markings, and put back the usual lines and goalposts in time for them?

Whatever about concerts, where you wouldn't want thousands of people on the pitch a few days before a match...no real reason not to allow another match midweek before going back to GAA action the following weekend.

It was the first English soccer game in croke park. The fact you don't think the GAA journalists even know it was on sums up how poor they are at keeping themselves and the fans informed.

They're GAA journalists, not gossip columnists.

Of course they knew it was on. But I don't know what you'd expect GAA journalists to write about a soccer match, other than maybe a paragraph or two to say it was being held in Croke Park in the first place.

And again, I see no reason why it couldn't have been on last night even if there was hurling or football to be played there this coming weekend. They're obviously able to switch things around in a couple of days to accommodate different sports, and last night's match wouldn't have done any significant damage to the pitch itself. Do you think otherwise, and if so, how and why?

It'll also tell if a ball was over the goal line or not. It only takes a second, Hawkeye is used for a single point but nothing for a goal.

Why would real GAA journalists have any interest in a Junior B Soccer game. Like myself most of them didn't even know it was happening.

We're the Leeds and Man Utd fans all intermingling or segregated?

That's goal line technology, which is fine. It's a pretty basic yes or no like hawkeye. Not VAR which is a replay of incidents happening out on the pitch. We can do without the latter, as it would cause chaos. As was mentioned above, almost every tackle in GAA is incredibly subjective. Debates over what was a foul or not, would be endless.

Tickets sold through Leeds United themselves were all for Hill 16 and their fans were directed towards one side of it, while Man United fans on the Hill filled the rest of it. But there was no physical barrier between the two sets of fans like you'd see at a "proper" soccer match. And if there were stewards or security between them, it was hard to tell, because many of the Leeds fans were wearing their bright yellow "away" shirts, much the same colour as a steward's high-vis vest would be. :)

Seems like a large number of those fans had travelled over from England for the session in Dublin. And sure why not.

Anything that went on general sale here would have been open to anyone to buy, no matter which team they supported. Of course, nature of it was that probably 95% or more of people there were Man United fans. But there was a family of Leeds supporters sitting two rows in front of us, and others scattered around the stadium in amongst the red shirts. No issue whatsoever, and no different to the crowd mixing for a GAA match.

Hard questions? LOL

The season is over, the players want it that way to play clun football. The money is badly needed.. anyone who has even a brief knowledge of the GAA finances would know that. What more is there to say?
