Congrats to our old Battle Buddies, couldn't be happier for you and enjoy. What im really happy about is you didn't fall over the line, you bet one of the headline counties, by sheer desire, skill and swashbuckling football, like true champions ions you owned and demanded the game and win thorough a majectic performence. Huge congratulations to Mayo on a fully deserved victory. Ye could have easily won by more, very rare to see Kerry choke so badly but no doubt they'll be back. Mayo were brilliant on the day - ye didn't bow the heads when 7 behind early on and fought back to win one of the best finals for many's the year. Speaking of it was a great speech. Winning speeches are usually very dull tbh,sith the captain just thanking loads and loads of people, but Coynes emotion was very clear and the speech was worthy of the occasion. Great win, a historic one. Fantastic for the people of Mayo. Now that the monkey is off their backs, no reason why they can't challenge for it again with real optimism for future success, but nothing beats the first one! Back to backs are very difficult to achieve. I dont see it but no doubting they'll give it a go in 2027 and in the years ahead. Mayo have every chance with the age profile of the team and obviously a good management team in place to add another one, maybe two. Warm Congratulations to Mayo. I was in a very small minority who was saying during the winter that Mayo weren't too far away. As I've said before, there's a crazy rush to write teams off. I never really understood the surprise some people had about Mayo making it to a semi-final or even a final. They seemed to be the only team who had one poor result held against them for the entire championship, while the likes of Dublin, Kerry and Louth had their bad performances written off. Mayo finished third in Division 1 and went on to win the All-Ireland, so I don't get why it was seen as such a shock that the team who finished third in the top division was competing at the business end of the championship. But if you look how closely Tyrone and Dublin ran them, plus Donegal beat them earlier in the summer. There is a good clutch of teams who can justifiably consider themselves contenders, and isn't that just great for the overall Championship. Football is in a great place. Exactly.Mayo are always contenders.Last year it was a last second point by Donegal that knocked them out. No surprise to see Mayo.They always dine at the top table as do Kerry,Dublin,Tyrone etc. This win will give both Galway and Roscommon a huge lift too. Next year is going to be brilliant as Mayo now are baggage free and will be up with the top contenders again along with Kerry,Armagh,Tyrone,Donegal,Dublin and Galway. I would have those teams as the main contenders followed very closely by the next batch of Roscommon,Cork,Meath,Loyth,Monaghan,Westmeath an Derry. Exciting times ahead.A brilliant time for football. Football is in a great place." 100% I could see the signs already last year. I was saying all winter that there were at least 7 strong All Ireland contenders and that's how it played out. Sure Kerry had a strong 2025 but the likes of Armagh, Tyrone and Donegal were always going to strike back. Mayo as I've said numerous times weren't too far away. But.. after Mayo were humiliated by Ross and rode their luck hugely in Clones v Monaghan, did anyone see Mayo winning an AI? I don't think so. Remember, most pundits tipped Louth to beat Mayo while the bookies had Mayo very slight favourites in that game. So in that context is is a big shock.
