Replying To letsgetgoing:  "Cork having won the All Ireland last year had the older and much more experienced team. Based on both starting teams, Cork had 7 players aged 18 while Roscommon only had 4. Roscommon had 4 players aged 16 while Cork only had 3.
Roscommon should have a good minor team next year with some of this year's All Ireland winning under 16 team stepping up, so some positives on a disappointing day.

Well done to Cork on a well deserved win."
It's been a great year. Connacht is hard won and will be again in 2027. To beat Mayo twice as this group of U18s did was impressive as was the manner and margin the Ulster champions Down was beaten

If we scales the heights of reaching the All-Ireland final again the girls underage again will hopefully learn alot from that experience yesterday. Main thing for me is the amount of good quality players coming through and hopefully as many as possible go on to be good senior players.

Huge lesson in mentality and ambition. One of the players said after the game Morans objective this year was going up the steps of the Hoganstand.

Kerry were stuck to the ground but congrats to Mayo who showed great energy and appetite. Shows Roscommon and many other counties what can be done. 2027 is another year for all.

Connacht champions v the All-Ireland champions should provide a keen interest for supporters when and where the Division 1 game between the two will be next spring.

Since the backdoor was introduced in 2001 I can't recall a All-Ireland winner bring up and mention a past defeat as much as Mayo have done with their defeat to us in April.

That day showed what we can do on good day and our championship exit and performance against Monaghan showed the opposite and how widely inconsistent we remain.

The true game Mayo should be mentioning in the loss to Tyrone than us. It opened the path for them a blessing in disguise that allowed them find consistency of 4 wins in row and after the opening 20 minutes today produced their best performance of the year.

Absolutely sickening seeing mayo win the all Ireland fair play to them but absolutely hurts

Makes the Connacht title seem so small

Hope Dowd and the players have a reaction to it next year and take the all Ireland series seriously

would getting to the last 12 be a success why are we so bad in the championship compared to mayo and Galway

Congratulations to Mayo on the win today. There appetite to work hard and put bodies up the field for the press paid off today. I keep looking back at the Monaghan game and how we basically gave up no press no desire. This is the difference between winning championship games are not. I watched that Monnahan came back the other night. It's a terrible performance. I know we can all have an off day but there seem to be a total lack of effort in passion. Hopefully the boys have learnt and we'll move on next year.

It was as if we downed tools after the Tyrone game and just fulfilled the fixture!

However let's recall with pride the magic of -
2 quarters v Kerry
1st half v Armagh
2nd half in Salthill
50 minutes v Mayo in Castlebar
Most of the Connacht Final esp last 8 minutes.
We played some wonderful football.
Task now is to do it more often and honestly in on the AI series, mid June on.

While us and Westmeath winning our Provincial Finals were wonderful occasions the Provincials are in effect irrelevant now to the AI series.

Some of it is mentality and ambition, Mayo and Galway look at winning Connacht as a stepping stone, their ambitions lie in getting to Croker and as deep as possible into championship. I think its a vague aspiration in Roscommon and not really focussed on because we talk ourselves into being a small county and sure isn't everything else a bonus. We are a small county but we produce very good footballers and we don't have a huge amount of other sports in competition with football. The county is pure football apart from a small area around Four Roads. As big as soccer is in Castlerea or Boyle it's still second fiddle to football. Roscommon lads are playing at a high level from secondary school competitions, through to county underage, into university and then club, there is no reason we shouldn't be aiming to get into the last 4 of the competition. We have a management team who definitely have ambition to up the standard going by the inclusion of Sherlock and Comerford this year, their challenge is getting the players heads there. There's a difference in thinking you'll win a game and having the belief in knowing how to win games. Big improvements this year but some old habits still need sorting out.

I know the 40's were an age ago and the game and format have changed beyond belief but after Roscommon winning in 43, Jimmy Murray said they wanted to get Kerry in the 44 final to be able to say they played and beat the best out there. That is incredible way of thinking compared to now where we'd be hoping to avoid Kerry or whoever. It's not like things were booming in the county either, the 40s were bleak. Huge emigration and the population dropping by 5000 between 1936 and 1946. There is almost nothing from that time relevant in how the game is played now but that mentality was evident in Mayo yesterday. They actually looked like a team that relished taking on Kerry.

Well done to Mayo on their brilliant All Ireland win yesterday

Personally delighted to see Aiden O Shea etc getting an All Ireland medals after so many heart breaks. Hopefully Diarmuid, Enda, Brian etc will also stick with it for a few more years and give it everything as we have some very good young footballers coming through.

Hopefully the first Division 1 match of the league will be Roscommon v Mayo in The Hyde where a full house would be nearly guaranteed. (It would be a sell out if tickets went on sale tomorrow)
No reason why the National League fixtures should not be announced in the next few weeks to allow people to make arrangements in advance, book hotels, ensure no other holidays booked or have other commitments for the critical matches etc.
Some of us like to plan well in advance.

Is Micky Comerford staying with Roscommon as S&C coach for next year as he does not appear to be returning to Kilkenny? It would show the confidence he has in the Rossies if he does stay.

Best of luck to Roscommon ladies intermediate team in the All Ireland final in Croke Park this Sunday.

Monaghan being a smaller county and doing more with less just makes it a lot more worse and not really a valid excuse for us either

That is true, a few lads in the south of the county. But by and large it is not a huge draw unless things are changing at underage. Genuine question, is there even a rugby pitch inside the county boundary? I know a lot of the rugby spots are in the border areas.

Great win for Mayo and for Connaught football. It was a testament to a brave style of play, something that we definately lacked against Monaghan. But Mayo deserve their day and their glory, hopefully it sets a precedent for teams to go for the game and back young players. Its no coincidence Darragh Heneghan was one of our best players and clutch players this year, these guys have no fear. The scenes in Croke Park yesterday at full time were unbelievable, hopefully wel get to witness them some day.

Big weekend coming in the club championship. Here are my predictions:

Oran v Elphin: Tight game here, Oran by two points but I think a draw could be on the cards. Elphin can go for broke here. Brady and Killoran very impressive in Intermediate league final.

St. Brigids v Michael Glaveys: Brigids by 10+ points, hard to see glaveys do back to back wins over the Kiltoom men. Brigids to retain the county title also. Brigits have no weak link and a team of county players

Padraig Pearses v Roscommon Gaels: Game of the weekend. Pearses missing Conor Ryan and Canning is huge and they tend to be slow starters in the group. Roscommon Gaels by 4/5 points.

Boyle v Clann na Gael: Another cracking game, Boyle had a good league and some key players back. Boyle by 3/4 points.

Western Gaels v Strokestown: Western Gaels go again after surviving another relegation, but Strokestown will be too strong for the Frenchpark outfit. Strokestown by 10 points, tipping McGinley for a strong championship

St. Faithleachs vs Castlerea: Good game in store in Ballyleague, fancy Faithleachs by 5/6 points here but Castlerea could spring a surprise. Murtagh brothers and co may have too much for Castlereas defence.

Jimmy Murray was an exceptional leader and that's what's needed. Before 1943, Roscommon hadn't won Connacht since 1914. They had lost by a point to Galway in the Connacht finals of 1941 and 1942. Murray said before the '43 Connacht final that we'll beat Galway today or they'll carry me off on a stretcher. Roscommon beat Galway that day and went on to beat Cavan in the All Ireland final and retained Sam the following year v Kerry. Murray was a man of steel with iron leadership. Roscommon beat this year's All Ireland champions by 10 points. We limped out of the championship against Monaghan because the team were happy with winning Connacht and had no real ambition beyond that. Well done to Mayo on their fight and energy yesterday though it always hurts to see red and green flying high in Ballaghaderreen.

Just saw on the indo that Darragh Mulcahy has been named as head of strength and conditioning in Henry Shefflins backroom team. Hopefully a sign Comerford stays with us?
