I take it you didnt see many of the previous games in 2018 then. Hindsight is 20/20.

Good luck to Buggy Joe and minor team tomorrow. Far from titles in this county that we can turn our nose up at lower division titles so everyone should be behind the boys

For the bloke who deals in 'facts' you've assumed wrong again, was down in Fraher Field on that beautiful day for the First Qualifier. While frustrating at the best of times, the statement I use to describe Kieran Hughes is "Form is temporary, class is permanent". Malachy definitely got the best out of the players at his disposal and gave us many great days, the above is my only minor disagreement. It's an awful pity your envy and begrudgery can't see past that Mr. 'fact' man.

Interestingly 3 ulster counties, Monaghan, Donegal and Down, in last 4 of Paul McGirr cup.
It would be good for Monaghan to beat Louth tomorrow and have an all-ulster final.
The gap between the tier 1 and tier 2 is not that great at all, Monaghan should never have let Donegal beat them in Ulster and Derry, ulster finalists, only got the better of Down by one point.
It will be interesting to see how Tyrone and Derry get on in tier 1 quarters tomorrow too, so we can sort of measure the standard in Ulster against other provinces.

Ulster football has been strong for a number of years at this grade. Tyrone will be strong favourites to beat Galway. Roscommon v Derry 50/50 contest.

Looking over the results in Tier 2 Minor championship

Preliminary Quarter-finals

Sligo 0-19 Clare 3-11
Offaly 4-22 Armagh 3-19
Down 2-22 Mayo 5-8
Monaghan 2-12 Westmeath 0-17

Quarter finals

Clare 1-10 Down 1-12
Louth 3-13 Cavan 2-8
Monaghan 2-17 Offaly 2-15
Dublin 0-17 Donegal 2-12

Down,Donegal and your own Monaghan all with competitive contest. That was a good win for Louth when you consider how close Cavan was to beating Tyrone.

I think these tiered underage competitions are a good thing as they allow young players get prolonged exposure to county football. I know a few Westmeath lads through work and according to them, 4 of their team that beat Monaghan on penalties in the U20 Tier 2 final last year featured in the Leinster final win. When you take that into context, the standard at will be decent in the later stages of the competition especially in the Tier 2.
