Replying To Yuptipp:  "Was in St. Flannan's this morning watching our u20 v your seniors. You seem to have gone back a lot since we last met in the league a few years back. Carlow and Antrim also seem to be on the back foot. This appears concerning for hurling in general. Just wondering what is the local viewpoint"
Huge amount of retirements and we've been hit by emigration like every other county to be fair. Some of the panellists would struggle to break into the Castletown senior team - it's just where we're at right now.

There's a lot of building to do with such a young squad in their early 20s, so we've our work cut out for us. There is good talent coming through CBS which is encouraging, but it'll be tough for a few years yet.

We're probably better off in 2A and the Joe McDonagh for the next couple of years to blood new players and build properly.

We are on a serious downward curve at the moment. We were always going to fall back to the pack but we now have too many Junior and intermediate players on our panel. Nett result our county team would seriously struggle against the top 3/4 senior teams in the county.

Very strong wind but we had no luck in first half creating three goal chances but between bad luck and good defending didn't convert any.
In the second half we were completely dominant outscoring Offaly in Birr by 14 points. But what was even better was the battling qualities shown. It wont be easy playing so many games one after the other especially with ao many dual players but this team can compete.
II hold my hand up, I questioned why so few of the county finalists werent playing but everyone who played today were excellent.

I didn't get your county finalist comment. The best players from the county u16 league & championship last year are all on this team from what I have heard. Do you think there should be more from Na Piarsaigh or Clann na Gael & if so then who? Its great to have at least one of our county teams competing in Tier 1, even though they may not progress to a semi final or final but credit to the management, they have done a great job so far. I was told during the week that 7 or 8 of last years panel were togged out today.

It was an opinion no more when i said that if management was correct we would be Leinster final contenders as i knew the finalists had many high class hurlers but only three were on the starting team. I still believe there are some of those lads fit to start but today proved management has created an excellent team with high quality teamwork. I dont know the last time a Westmeath underage team won a championship match in Birr but it wasn't today or yesterday and in the end we were convincing winners.

Some exceptional hurlers on this team. Conor Williams, Dean Kelly, MJ Long, Eoghan Beehan, Dara Geary, Conor Raleigh all excellent. There are some quality hurlers coming off the bench too Thomas Wrafter is another who could easily be starting. Hopefully they give Kilkenny a good rattle, it'd be great if it was in Mullingar

Leinster council have made a total mess of this years minor championship. Yesterday was a huge game as ourselves and Offaly faced the situation that the loser was out of the Leinster MHC after playing 2 matches whilst the winner is guaranteed three more. On their site they have Kerry beating us 2-20 to 3-16 when we actually won 3-26 to 2-10.
So according to their own website Kerry should have played Offaly yesterday. Unbelievable!!!
It is seriously worrying the lack of interest Leinster have in the their own MHC. No wonder Munster is dominating.

Meath coming out on top 1-22 to 22

Both teams missing a few but fairly close to what's going to take to the field next week in respective championship campaigns from chatting to a few more around me"
Kerry 3-17 Meath 0-12
This is not doing my confidence much good.
On a positive note, what a game the u17s played eliminating Offlay from the MHC in the process. The Half back line were very impressive keeping the Offaly half forward line scoreless in the process. I think all our forwards scored. Hopefully a good crowd will turn up to support them in Cusack at the weekend.

We just need to stay up in Joe Mcdonagh with this current team, that'd be an achievement to be honest.
I hope the minors get a good crowd in to support them this weekend against Kilkenny, they already played Kilkenny in a challenge game a few weeks back putting in a great performance. They should be going into the weekend with confidence after a very comprehensive win over Kerry at home and then knocking Offaly out of the Leinster MHC in their own backyard of Birr.
They are guaranteed 3 more games and against Tier 1 counties too.

London is a huge match. If we win we should be fairly safe and going into Carlow match in positive mode.If we lose its back to the wall stuff. Just heard minor match in Clonkill Saturday

That won't count for much Saturday. But I'm interested to see how it goes. This result will be a real mark as to where they are at. I hope it's a good game.

I'm surprised it isn't in Cusack, maybe Clonkill is a preference with the management team?

I agree it wont count for much, Kilkenny will bring huge levels of intensity and skill. Hopefully we are tuned in from the get go, from watching the last two games one thing that stood out to me is that we are a skillful side but the work rate has been exceptional, we need to bring that again and even more so.

Absolutely agree challenge matches mean very little and it will tell us where we are at against an All Ireland contender. A real learning curve for our lads so lets see how we go.

It's crucial we start our best 15 in their best positions on Sunday. We need to lay down a marker. We lacked fitness in the league and faded out of most games with 10/15 min to go. Hopefully the lads have put in a good block of conditioning work since the Mayo game. I don't expect to qualify at this stage but surely we need to be collecting points from 3 of these games.

Only County not hosting the MHC at their County grounds. Lack of respect by your CB to the competition and players from this standpoint

Bit rich coming from a county that ignores the country's most popular sport. What respect do ye pay to players and competitions in Gaelic?

Carlow and Kildare played games in their respective centres of excellence in minor this year.
