Galway U20s with a good last 10 minutes to the half to lead by 6 points. 5-4 behind before that a Sligo fully deserved their lead.

Galway U20s one winners in Tuam, far from convincing win, lucky to be gifted a goal on 43 mins and then in added time the Sligo forward put his goal bound effort over the bar than under it.

Big improvement needed from Galway if they want to beat Mayo next and avoid a semi-final.

U20 result

Galway 1-13 Sligo 0-15

Galway 6 up at HT. Outscored 0-10 to 1-2 in the second half. Just about hung on for the win. Blocked down a Sligo 2 point effort right on the final whistle. Not overly convincing though. 3 wins from 3 all the same. Mayo will be the big test.

First 20 minutes they couldn't win a kickout, totally dominated. They were far too passive when Sligo had the ball, Galway played like they thought they were always going to win and were nearly caught in the end. Outside of the 3 lads on the senior panel though Coen stood out which is no surprise and expect him to be part of the senior panel next year.

Going to have to play a lot better to beat Mayo next week.

Midfield issues not helped with Shay Mcglinchey carrying a knick was eventually taken off late on. He'll be a doubt for Mayo and no real replacement for him. Vinne Gill ,Richard McGrath was others to stand out last night.

Is Mcglinchy turning into another Mcglaughlin from Moycullen? Is injuries are piling up for a young lad

Hopefully not but doesn look good very injury prone at his young age. McLaughlin hasn kicked a ball and while looked like he had potential from u20 always felt like people overhyped him whereas Mcglinchey has alot more football in him but hoping he can get fit and playing a serious prospect in my opinion.

McGlinchey kicked a huge 2 pointer with the last kick before half time that basically won Galway the game as they needed those 2 points. Went off then at the break. Credit also to his midfielder partner, Patrick Keaney. I think it was him who blocked down the Sligo 2 point attempt with the last kick of the game.
