Garrycastle have Alex gardiner back and a strong group of young lads in there first year at adult. I would tip Garrycastle to win Division 1 this year and Shamrocks should go well with new manager David Martin. Kinnegad have been the best league team for a number of years now but from talking to one of there players things will be different this year as are struggling badly with injuries.

Come on now . There are great people invovled in the county board and I admire anyone who gives up there free time to volunteer but you have to admit yourself they got this horribly wrong. The most positive and supportive would the format change makes absolutely no sense.

Gardiner being back with the new scoring rules will be a serious asset. Add in two or three strong Marist forwards coming through and, with the in-house management they've got, they could easily be the dark horses of this championship. Kinnegad will be busy, especially with them being in both D1 and D2 for the first year. getting hit with injuries or lads away emigrating, it could be a challenge for them. How are we fixed for the game vs Fermanagh this weekend? iarmhi_an_mhaith (Westmeath) - Posts: 292 - 19/02/2026 12:38:17 2657304 Link 0 |

Reckon McCartan, Wallace and Guerin is our best half-back line right now. Baker's improving all the time, but that line has serious legs and attacking threat. Still, if Baker's fit he's a great option to bring on late to close it out.

Mitchell is in there alright , nursing his way back from the injury sustained for the downs last year. He musnt be far off. He has the potential to be a serious addition to the squad. Westmeath213 (Westmeath) - Posts: 349 - 19/02/2026 17:29:09 2657352 Link 1 |

Niall Mitchel is still with the squad. I hear Joe Moran is back from injury playing for the club this weekend to get some game time. he would be good in the half back line, we are very short of good defenders in the squad.

big game tomorrow . i hope we start on the front foot . in too many games we have had to chase the game after slow starts . team is along expected lines . good to see brian cooney starting he has had an impact as a sub in recent games . the going will be heavy after all the torrential rain . good luck to mark and the lads mickcunningham (Westmeath) - Posts: 1927 - 21/02/2026 20:47:41 2657692 Link 0 |

Seemed to be a lot of postponed games; in Division 1 Garrycastle and The Downs both started with wins. And in Division 2 Milltownpass beat Rosemount.

I've been going to Westmead games for the last 35 years. What I am saying is this year? Our selection of subs on the bench is very scarce due to injuries. look at the programs for this year. It was more forward than defenders we have a problem centrefield run straight through the middle of our defence got scores easy that's what I was trying to say

Great win today in tough conditions for the most part. Half back line in particular were brilliant. A win next week puts us in with a great shout of promotion. Did baker pick up an injury at the end? Lakecounty94 (Westmeath) - Posts: 89 - 22/02/2026 16:55:35 2657834 Link 0 |

What a roller coaster of a game . Certainly two different mindsets in both halves . Two sloppy goals gave fermanagh a lead at half time . 2nd half was a different story . Brian cooney started the scoring and his contribution was immense . The team upped their level all over the field. Full back line started to get on top and mattie whitter drove the team on . Ray even though he shipped heavy punishment kept us winning possession. Luke as only he can scored a goal he had no right to score . So a happy man leaving the park and on to portlaoise on Saturday evening mickcunningham (Westmeath) - Posts: 1927 - 22/02/2026 17:13:42 2657842 Link 0 |

The game has changed. You need more defenders able to attack, score and track back, who can play on half forward and half back line rather than a traditional defender. Increasingly across club and county across Ireland, forwards are been utilized in the defense. I think our sub selection underlines this and the changes to the game.

Great display today, we were very unlucky to be 7 down at HT but our dominance in the game showed in the second half on the scoreboard. Really hope Senan Baker is ok looked like a bad injury a FT! Westmeath25 (Westmeath) - Posts: 7 - 22/02/2026 17:37:08 2657847 Link 0 |

Good win today, Fermanagh were awful though. Brian cooney excellent and Matthew Whittaker becoming a super a player. Despite being taken off I thought Corcoran showed well Bluelake (Westmeath) - Posts: 350 - 22/02/2026 18:50:07 2657886 Link 0 |
