Yep. Same as at least 2 other top tier counties. No point crying about it yet. Firstly we need to beat Offaly tomorrow. PP reckons 4-1 on. Then we need Dublin to beat Kilkenny on Sunday. PP reckons 7-2. So PP reckons the odds on that double are 4.63-1. That sounds about right, and it's obviously not an impossible outcome. Just FYI it's about the same odds as an Offaly and Kilkenny to win double this weekend, which some posters on this forum seem certain is going to happen. Then hopefully we go into a winner takes all game against Kilkenny. In Wexford Park. And here's a question for you, when was the last time Kilkenny won a championship game in Wexford Park? Regarding team selection, I'd honestly be shocked if Casey starts tmw, I don't think he's near good enough but Rossiter obviously thinks he's better than the younger lads and maybe he's right, which is a sad indictment of the quality of the panel. It's the same with Donohoe, great fight in him but limited in Inter county. Stands out a mile in our club championship so it shows how poor of a standard that is. Niall Murphy must have some determination in him to stay with the squad when he gets pretty much zero important minutes over the past 3 or 4 years. Again, I don't think he's quick enough for inter county but those lads make some commitment to the cause so they deserve a good level of appreciation from us for putting in the effort, year after year. We need to beat Offaly tmw to get the team and supporters a bit of confidence going into the last game against the Cats because I dread to think of the beating they'll give us if we lose again tmw. Do I think we'll qualify for anything? No! but would sure be nice to end the season with 2 wins. YellowShadeOfPurple (Wexford) - Posts: 45 - 16/05/2025 17:14:42 2610090 Link 0 |
What difference does that make we can keep beating kilkenny every year if we like buts its not about who beats Kilkenny its a bigger picture .

Last time Kilkenny beat Wexford in Senior Hurling Championship in Wexford Park? First thoughts were that it must be donkey's years ago, because of how we didn't play them too regularly on a home/away basis for many years, and instead usually met in Croke Park. But then I remembered the real answer, and it's not exactly the dim and distant past. For context - one of the lads who retired during the winter just gone by started that match. Also, we've only actually played them in the championship in Wexford Park three times since then (two wins, one draw). All were good results, but it's not a long and extended track record of 'getting one over on them' there either. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2866 - 16/05/2025 19:15:12 2610109 Link 0 |

You'd have taken on in 2010 though wouldn't you?

The results from the KK games over the last few years would look a lot different if we had met them in the first couple of games and not when they had already qualified. Low2Joe (Wexford) - Posts: 57 - 17/05/2025 00:18:55 2610140 Link 0 |
The Kilkenny thing is so strange. Through the years getting over them nearly always meant you were going to win something looking at the 90s and 05. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3601 - 17/05/2025 07:47:37 2610150 Link 1 |
Cant understand why we are so fixated on our record against Kilkenny its our record against the rest of Leinster is where our problems lie.

Nonsense. When we beat them in Nowlan park they could have gone out of the championship. 17 we beat them in semi final, 19 a final and ok in 23 they'd qualified but have you looked at Richie Hogan's book yet? They were dying to bury us.

I agree, but they've inflicted so much pain on us

I was dissapointed with how poor laois u20s were the other night. Infact they were very poor. This isnt a great kk team but the longer it went on the more KK scored. A huge root and branch is years over due in wexford.its hard to be winning at senior when underage is poor. Huge overall needed. Yeah I heard the same point being discussed yesterday on second captains podcast. Liam Rushe is one of the contributors and is actually very good in his analysis, he reckoned that Wexford let Galway off the hook last week in many ways, that we had the opportunity to win that game but is baffled by our tactical set up and approach, he broke it down very well how KK forced Galway long with their puck outs and tore them apart yet Wexford literally done the opposite. Also highlighted our inability to get Rory O Conor on the ball enough If we struggle again today and concede the puck out against Offaly I'll lose the will to live. tearintom (Wexford) - Posts: 1505 - 17/05/2025 09:36:55 2610167 Link 0 |
And the rest of the country too but we talk of players mind sets and attitude yet some on here have a total wrong mindset every year its the same if we can beat Kilkenny i can guarantee thete not thinking the same about us even when they win leinster titles there not happy.

As already pointed out above, that's nonsense. Going back to all meetings since 2017: 2017 - beat them in an old-fashioned semi-final in Wexford Park. 2018 - lost the group match in Nowlan Park in the first year of the new system. 2019 - drew with them in the group match in Wexford Park, on an evening where defeat for either team would have seen them out of the championship (so Kilkenny not already qualified). Then beat them in the final. 2020 - Didn't play 2021 - Lost in Croke Park after extra time 2022 - Beat them in Nowlan Park, meaning Kilkenny would have been out of championship if Dublin had drawn or won against Galway on the same day, instead of losing to them. So Kilkenny not already qualified before we met them. 2023 - The one where we avoided relegation - the only one where Kilkenny were actually already qualified. And they didn't exactly go easy on us. Remember they had a goal disallowed in last few seconds that would have seen us drop to the Joe McDonagh if it had stood. 2024 - Lost to them in Nowlan Park. 22 they would've been out altogether if Galway hadn't of beaten Dublin, the only year in years that they did beat Dublin . And last year if we had of won we would've made the final, not them. And it took Gordon to win that game for them.

Yes. But it's always nice to beat Kilkenny.

In Kilkenny while they want to win leinster if they don't win the all ireland they regard it as failure. Same with Kerry footballers in munster. The cats haven't won an all ireland in 10 years and that I am certain is killing them. We on the other hand even if we reach a leinster final ( a distant memory now ) would be seen by us as progress. The difference is world's apart. Magpie2 (Wexford) - Posts: 464 - 17/05/2025 12:23:00 2610195 Link 0 |
