How would the Carlow supporters feel about having Steven Poacher as full time manager as distinct from merely a coach. I know he's been involved there before so he should fit in seamlessly.

I'm merely throwing this out there as illness and fatigue have done for his present charges….

Given Poachers recent form he would probably look to give the walkover against Meath.
He did well enough as a coach a few years ago but has since become a media personality

Poacher back as manager of Carlow and leaving Leitrim !
I think many in Leitrim would be happy if Poacher left and returned to Carlow
Many former Carlow players loved Stephen and his approach and there is little doubt that he got great 'buy in ' from the players for his system.
As for myself I think the game has changed substantially from the style he employed with Carlow.
The addition of the rule.enhancements mitigate against his style also as he was a believer.in a tight defence of more than 12.
Surely Leitrim will not let him go until after next yeats league is over?
He has a lot to prove and won't want to leave till then.

I was a big fan of Poacher, and I firmly believe he should have gotten the Carlow job in 2020.

However, I think the new rules might not suit his coaching--and his spell at Leitrim suggests he might be better off serving as a number two.

After being given permission by management to stay in London and not return with the team ... so why have management thrown the toys out now?

Delighted to see the players issue a statement. Hopefully it will be reported by the media as quickly as some of the speculation & lies were.

RTE have covered the players statement. Fair play to the players there's been enough bs and bluster from the other side.

U-20 hurlers out today in Leinster champ v Kerry.

Strange to see a county hurling team that has just two MLR and none from St Mullins. Good spread of clubs though within the small pool of hurling clubs that we have. I wonder is that because the big two have fallen back a bit or is there a raise in standard across the county? Mullins never that strong at underage I know but they'd still have one or two coming through each year. Great to see Myshall back with good numbers on a county hurling team but Bagenalstown just one which seems to be a continuing problem at underage disappointing when so strong at the moment at senior.

Minor footballers playing a Kilkenny minor team today in some sort of south east shield competition. Also involves Wexford and Wicklow I'm told. Needless to say we'd be wanting to win fairly well today. Apparently Kilkenny have worked hard to get a minor football team together after being out of it for a few years but it seems they've had to do all or a lot of their training in Carlow !! as they couldn't get a floodlit pitch to train on so have been using the astro in the IT to train. Priorities in Kilkenny don't change.

Not sure how full strength the Carlow team that's picked is but I see only one Eire Og on it. Great spread of clubs on it though with Bagenalstown again an exception by having no one. With an Eire Og manager and a selector as well I don't think anyone can accuse management of any bias in fairness but it does seem strange that no other town team (not counting Pal as town) has anyone on it so between Carlow town and Bagenalstown who between them have a huge pick of the county (well over 50% maybe 60%) but only one player on county team. Doesn't seem right.

Carlow drew with Kilkenny in that minor match.

So we just spent a number of years - with Colts and Foals etc - trying to bring through a group which draws against a side cobbled together by a county where football is an afterthought.

Surely, at this point there has to be some questions about the structures and the level of coaching?

A bad week for carlow football. Cake gate. 20s beaten and minor team draws with kilkenny.
I think what happened with cake was inevitable. Not going to waste any more time talking about that.

20s was very disappointing. That was a poor wexford team, carlow beat them at minor so that whole thing has gone backwards. Seems to be an issue getting the best lads in there.

Minors is just bizarre. I'm not going to start naming lads under 18 on here but either they thought they would win handy and picked a team to give lads a game who maybe won't get a game later or they are stupid. The next games will reveal which it is

Are you having a laugh. With St Mullins it is a numbers issue alright and don't play underage at A level as a result but MLR are current u20 and minor hurling champions and have a couple more from the previous few years. County U20 hurling team lost a couple of good MLR players who were forced to choose between codes by hurling management despite football management happy for them to play dual. Another player dropped from panel as he was training to prepare for the Leinster Schools final with his school team. Another MLR player out with a longer term injury from my understanding.

A bit of both Barrowsider. Was at the game today and no logic behind team selection yet again. It seems like the extended panel members named will actually be guaranteed starters for championship. Which in some cases is just as concerning. A shocking result against Kilkenny, just shocking. And like you say, just a terrible week all round for Carlow football

Unfortunately you are correct. I went into that game and it was a poor standard match but Kerry were way better in every facet. Fair play for the effort and commitment but that Carlow team was very disappointing. So many lads who couldn't drive the ball more then 45 metres and couldn't perform the basics like lifting the ball. So many times also they went on runs and instead of letting it go they'd run into traffic and lost it before receiving any contact even. Looking at them they'd have been much better off entering all Ireland B championship and staying out of Leinster A this year at least.
