Mayo just do not do All Irelands (at least not in the last 70+ years] so expect the kitchen sink to be thrown at winning the National League Title on Sunday .There are no medals for getting to All Ireland Q.F or S.F. To me anyway there is much more value in the current set up in winning the N.L than the Connacht Championship. edu (Mayo) - Posts: 93 - 28/03/2025 09:49:30 2599022 Link 1 |
It's nothing to do with the price of pints you fool… but maybe that's the reason Monaghan never won anything…

Think it's about Roscommon having a six day turnaround before a Connacht QF on Saturday 5th April. I don't personally mind a Saturday match in Croker , we have become accustomed to the finals being played in sequence 4,3,2,1. Always good to have a final in Croke Park , good luck to all eight teams over the weekend.

That's it all right. We in Wexford expected our Div. 4 final to be paired up with the Div. 3 final as usual, but turns out Roscommon requested the Saturday night spot, and Monaghan agreed to it. Basically to do with what would have been that six-day turnaround for Roscommon, made even more relevant by how they've to travel to London. Kildare & Offaly (Div. 2 finalists) don't mind as they're not out in championship until April 12/13, and Monaghan won't be playing championship until April 20. And to answer you on it - would the Association have been "right" to say no to Roscommon, on a request that Monaghan, Kildare and Offaly all agreed with as well, and forced Roscommon to play on the Sunday afternoon anyway?

There would be no need for a request from Roscommon if the GAA were doing their job right in the first place and having adequate time between League finals and the start of the Championship… but alas they have no foresight or brains when it comes to these things… A pityfully poor run sporting organisation….!!!

It's truly great how you have all the answers. Have you ever stood for office yourself so that you can work towards putting them into practice and the entire Association can benefit from your wisdom?

Down and Westmeath have been relegated back to Division 3 from Division 2 but both counties competed well in Division 2 and are making progress in my opinion. REDANDBLACK30 (Down) - Posts: 1677 - 28/03/2025 18:28:28 2599120 Link 0 |
3 handy wins for kerry, wexford and kildare. Monaghan and Roscommon could be a draw. CorkLiamMcCarthy24 (Cork) - Posts: 135 - 28/03/2025 22:00:20 2599156 Link 0 |
Division 1. Promoted Donegal and Armagh retained Division 1 status. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8633 - 29/03/2025 05:44:59 2599169 Link 0 |
In 2019 the Divison 1 and Division 2 finals were not played together.

Stubborn HQ are to blame. For a few congress sittings they have tried to separate the provinces from the All Ireland series but the province councils stood their ground. Not having adequate time between League finals and the start of the Championship is their way of showing the lack of respect they have for province championship but doing that has undermined the league competitions firstly with teams not going all out to reach a div 1 final and then not overly bothered how the final goes.

Exactly…. Pure stupidity by the GAA…. but nothing new there I suppose

That's because for some reason the Division 3 final didn't take place until the following week…. They were hardly going to put the Division 4 final on on its own on Saturday evening so they put the Division 2 in with it… They are stupid but not completely dumb altogether…!!!!

Spot on Ollie. The Division 1 Camogie, Hurling and Football League Finals were all on the same day in Croke Park in 2019.

Good humoured Rebels keep reminding us that Cork is the true capital of the Republic. Béal Féirste is of course the second largest city in Ireland. An ceart agat go hiomlán , brón orm faoi sin … lámh dearg Abu !

Makes not a jot of difference.. I'm still correct in saying the GAA have made a pigs ear out of the National League by having no gap between finals and the start of the Championship…. They seem to have absolutely no foresight as regards running their competitions… A very poorly run organisation..!

Not sure if I might be one of very few but really enjoyed limerick/Wexford..both teams went at it and limerick took their goal chances,Wexford missed3 great goal chances..from my point of view I couldn't get over the non cynical attitude of both teams, don't remember any fouls of a serious nature and maybe that will come against both teams going forward..great credit due to jimmy lee and everyone associated with the panel because I think up on 14 players were unavailable for selection this year..
